Amber bust'in clay birds at 500 yards w/the 6XC

Re: Amber bust'in clay birds at 500 yards w/the 6XC

Stan,

Looks like an awesome day to shoot. We had nothing but fog on the bay. What velocity are you getting with the 6XC...and what projo are you running? I am debating the merits of the various 6mm cartridges and wanted to know what you thought.

Pretty cool, Stan! I wish my wife would come shoot with me. You're a lucky dude!

Re: Amber bust'in clay birds at 500 yards w/the 6XC

Thanks gents.

Ok...I am using 107 smk's over 38.5 grains of H4350 and am getting around 2950fps.
This is my 2nd 6XC...really like this round for long range paper punching. I use this rifle for 600 and 1000 yard matches. The 6XC has pretty much the same ballistics of the .243 but better barrel life. I also have a fast twist .243 (Surgeon Scalpel) I shoot from time to time as well.

This has also been the the easiest rifle I have ever worked up a load for. The first 25 rounds I shot through it all yielded around 1/2" groups at 100 yards. That is covered here:

The fan...to keep the barrel cool. We were doing a large volume of shooting and for the most part were in the direct sun.

Recoil...what recoil??? Really. With the brake and the weight of the rifle (20+ lbs.) it is like shooting a .22. In fact the gent who had only ever shot a .22 commented it was like shooting his .22 but only louder. When shooting on the bench with a front rest I sometimes free recoil shoot it and it only moves about 3" straight back.

Take care,Stan

PS...LOTS of "good" pics of Amber in the "hot girlfriend" thread.

Sorry buddy.. the fan was a rhetorical question, I figured as much.. And the "recoil" comment was just to get more Amber on cam... Come on man, gotta be quick with this crowd!! Impressive instructional skills if I may say so.. My wife only shoots the .17 HMR
