American Reloading MP424 or MP425 powders

Anyone have experience with the cheaper powders available from AR? They list it as "similar to" AA2230. I tried to search here and Google but not much luck on reviews or past experience. Just looking for powder to make some cheaper rounds when participating in the "Run-n-gun" matches that only shoot at 80yards max.

Yep, I have a lot of experience with AR powders.

I tested the similar to AA2230 a month or so ago..

I haven't run their MP424 or 425 myself, but some friends have done it for blasting ammo.

Just like their web site lists, they ran the load development just like the "similar to" powder and had no issues.
For example, on their listing for the 424, you will notice it is really just a version of A2330 and shows a 55 grain load at roughly 25 grains doing roughly 3050 fps.

If you have a chronograph, you should be able to match the speed you want.

Cool, thanks. Just curious on the different numbers. Both 424 and 425 say similar to 2230 and wondered if there is a difference between the two or if it's just different lot numbers. Regardless, it sounds like it will fit the bill for the intended purpose.

I just checked and my similar to AA2230 is MP426 and says 24.5gr 55 FMJ 2900....

I like teh MP420 they have listed 25gr 55 FMJ 3190

Always treat this stuff like pull-down, meaning the bulk versions sold to large contracts may or may not be the same as Commercial A2230 that is held to a tighter tolerance. The factory charges are adjusted to the batch before they run off the bulk ammo.

With bulk powders, the basic powder characteristics are a close match yet don't hit the commercial A2230 tolerance, and will require a little more adjusting to match the results you want. As long as you realize you are not getting exact A2230 and will need to adjust, you will make it work.
