Is there a standard torque setting that most people use on their rings and bases? If so, what is the amount?

15 in/lbs seems to be about normal but there is some variation out there.

Most scopes - 15 inch pounds on the scope rings (small set screws) and 65 inch pounds on the side locking nuts.

It depends on the rings.
Badger told me 65 inch-pounds for the base and 15 inch-pounds for the caps. This seems fairly standard.
Seekins said 55 for the base and 15 - 25 for the caps.

I test the rings I manufacture by tightening the scope clamp screws to 40 inch-pounds followed by an inspection of the tube to ensure that it was not damaged during the test. 20-30 inch-pounds is our recommendation for for normal use. A great tool to use for this is made by Wiha Tools and can be found at

Rail clamp nut can be torqued to between 50 and 60 inch-pounds.
