    More shooting.

Looking toward the target. Its a 29" x 19" JC Steel torso between two sections of snow in the left 20 percent of the picture.

    Rifle set up....

    P1019253.JPG

Fired 13 shots. .223 was impossible to hear hitting the steel. Heavy mirage with cold air yet sunheated ground baking up. Was getting scared couldnt hear impact and I wasn't seeing any steel splash through the M49 scope.

Trip down range showed 7 of 13 had hit steel but I was hitting left.

Looking back to the firing point....

Gorgeous! How close is Erving from Springfield or Deerfield? I have quite a bit of family in that area. Used to get up that way every year but not so much lately. None the less, thanks for sharing!

Fired fifteen more with my new information....

    Twelve for fifteen....

    P1019264.JPG

I ranged the target through my reticle. My friend estimated it at 550 yards. I came up with 447 yards.

    My Data Book...

    P1019266.JPG

I held 2.9 mils but needed to hold it on the targets left shoulder to get a good COM group.

Wind seemed to be coming from my back to 12 oclock but mirage was whirling around sometimes a river from left to right, sometimes a boil, than a river from right to left.

I wont say Im satisfied but 19 for 28 with an unknown distance target and able to make a half decent COM group once I had better visual data.

My initial shots had me worried it was going to be a real bad day as there was no trace to see and the shots sailed into the ether with no berm to indicate splash. I thought it was going to be totally ugly.

    A work in progress.

Love the photos. Especially the rock wall. Ran across many of them stomping though the woods with my dog after school. You are just a bit down route 2 from my teenage stomping grounds. Brings back a lot of good memories.
