Your credit card is out and your about to confirm the last few crucial numbers to purchase your PVS-14 and your little jimmy cricket reminds you about the helmet, ir laser, helmet mount etc that you’ve been reading. Blast him! He is just looking out for himself because he knows the skull crusher, er USGI Head Gear, could leave lasting impressions so people would think you were caught in a waffle maker as a small child. With 257 Helmet manufactures and just as many helmet mounting options it’s enough to make you want a straight shot of tequila. Never fear…

The basic kit MODArmory recommends includes:

Team Wendy EXFIL Carbon Helmet with Wilcox 3 Hole Shroud & Lanyard
USGI / Norotos Rhino Mount
USGI Jarm
LDI Laser Devices ITAL or OTAL IR Laser
EOG Counterweight

Why the Team Wendy Helmet: First off the comfort-ability is outstanding. This is not merely foam stuck in random places. When you are coyote hunting with snow up to your knees the liner system will not turn to bricks. When you are in the cornfield in Texas and its mid-September they will not have morphed into marshmallows. For protection (not ballistic) it has the best blunt impact performance! It far exceeds the currently military requirements. Based on our recent dare devil moves in a Tomcar we recommend it! The BOA Cam Fit retention system is second to none with a lifetime guarantee. It’s easy to adjust and extremely secure. When I accidentally grab an XL helmet I can crank it down and not worry about it sliding off. With the Velcro and t-slot attachments one can strap / bolt down anything to this helmet. Here is a MacGyver example if you purchase the Team Wendy Shroud: We recommend the Wilcox 3 Hole Shroud & Lanyard combination over other Shrouds / Lanyards. Buy the kit together and it saves you $20.00. Woo hoo you could win big at Roulette and I suggest black.

Laser Devices – ITAL or OTAL Class 1 IR Laser. ITAL – Inline with the boresight versus OTAL – Offset with the boresight. In the 12oclock position if you have a folding or fixed front sight post this would determine if you want the IR laser to be inline or offset. Its rock science, I know. For mounting at 3oclock or 9oclock we suggest the ITAL. This way you are only adjusting on one axis. Includes remote pressure switch and it’s easy to obtain extra remote pressure switches! Effective range is within 500 yards and now its time to rock and roll. Well don’t forget your AA battery! Laser Devices makes several IR lasers and it seems we sell DBAL-I2’s hand over fist. This is a great device but I will let you be the judge if a visible laser is of value to you.

USGI Rhino Mount & J-Arm: This is the standard USGI Issued mounting system. It’s basic, simple and will get the job down. Once you begin spending nights tromping through woods or riding around in a Tomcar you will eventually want to upgrade to a Wilcox or Norotos helmet mounting system. I can spend another entire paragraph explaining why individuals prefer the Wilcox L4 G24 Mount but we are concentrating on the basics.

EOG Counterweights have a variety of shapes, sizes but as far as color believe it or not the only options you have are Multicam, Black, OD Green or Coyote tan. For everyone that wants pink I’m trying! We use the EOG LPCWS – Low profile counterweight. It conforms to the helmet and is low profile. I do not know what more you could ask for besides the winning lottery numbers. For a compact / vertical alignment for your helmet we recommend the LBM.
