I was laughing about that story earlier. I'm one of those whack jobs that had pet snakes and other reptiles when I was younger and am the guy who'll show up at someone's house to grab a nuisance snake and relocate it.

That being said, I wouldn't touch an earthworm in Australia. It seems as though basically everything but a fucking Koala will kill you in that country.

Jeezus, so not even a Koala can be trusted. I guess that's my point proven. All these weirdos wanting to be the next Steve Irwin should remember how that ended.

I have a ranch just outside of Brisbane Australia and I live there about 6 months out of the year. Unfortunately the Inland Taipan and the King Brown are quite literally in my backyard, the taipan is usually very skittish and as long as you make enough noise will never bother you most people who are Bitten are usually doing gardening and moving stuff around and dark areas. Now for the King Brown not only is it the second most venomous snake in the world but he's also aggressive, and very large. The Brown is one of very few snakes that will actually chase you if provoked, and what most people don't know is they are not generally that perfect dark brown color some are black and some are even green so the bottom line and Australia is never fuck with any snake!!... Australia is a lovely place to vacation and even raise a family, but it definitely does have its obstacles.

If anybody is curious what it's like to live in Australia feel free to ask I can tell you that I've encountered just about every creature that most of us never want to including a huntsman spider the size of my hand on my crotch.. and I was also stung by ihrig Angie jellyfish at Fraser Island, and that my friends Fucking sucked!!

Had a police officer in my home town think it would be cool to have caged rattle snakes which in MA are illegal (like just about everything else).

While feeding or fucking with one he got bit.

Thought he could wait it out, Its just a flesh wound.

Than got scared as his body started to fail.

Tried to lie and say he was hiking at Blue Hills reservation, basically on the border of Boston, and got bit by one of the rare eastern timber rattlers that do in fact live there. After getting bit he drove home felt ill and called EMS.

Everyone else that knew him, which included the EMS and fire guys from town. knew he had snakes and he was full of shit.

Last I heard his kidneys were destroyed or something like that, it wasnt 100 percent he would make it, and his life was changed forever.

A lot of nasty reptiles in the world. I remember the story of a guy traveling in Africa who was but by a Green Mamba and dead in 15 minutes. It depends a lot on how much venom is injected, and where, The thing with Mambas and Cobras is they get 12'-16' long and can raise themselves 40% of their length. 40% of 16 feet is over 6 feet so it could bite you in the temple. Dead quick.

I was laughing about that story earlier. I'm one of those whack jobs that had pet snakes and other reptiles when I was younger and am the guy who'll show up at someone's house to grab a nuisance snake and relocate it.

That being said, I wouldn't touch an earthworm in Australia. It seems as though basically everything but a fucking Koala will kill you in that country.

My niece was bitten on the ankle 3 times zap-zap-zap by a little rattler on her front porch while unlocking the front door one night about 6 weeks ago. Local hospital only had 2 bags of anti venom, they gave her one and the other to someone that had come in with a copperhead bite. My niece was in bad enough shape the doctors insisted she be taken by helicopter instead of an ambulance to another hospital for more anti venom. It took 18 bags to turn her around.

If you're gonna get bit, get bit by a big one, with luck it will be a dry bite, the little ones don't know what they're doing and will let you have it with everything they got.

That truly sucks. I hope she's making a good recovery and they were able to prevent major tissue damage?

Leg still swollen a little, no permanet damage. What freaked the doctors was her blood work, something that I can't remember off the top of my head, that is usually a couple of hundred and never supposed to drop below 50 was down to 5. That was the reason for the chopper ride.

Anti venom seems to stay in perpetual short supply around here and it's not cheap either.

Not hemoglobin, unless that means platelets, because now I seem to remember it was platelets and not a couple of hundred; but, a couple of hundred thousand per some part of a liter is the norm.

It is definitely platelets. Anything less than 100k/mm3 is considered thrombocytopenia, which translates to impaired coagulation. A count as low as 5k will result in spontaneous bleeding and is quite the emergency.

Hemoglobin is a component of red cells, with normal values measured around 11-15 mg/dL.
