Looking for a 50BMG suppressor. Will be used on a bolt gun (DTA HTI) only. Cost is (basically) no object. What I'm specifically looking for is:

#1 Priority: Signature Reduction (flash>dust up>>>db).

#2 Priority: Weight > Attachment Method > Recoil Increase (least possible) > Durability > Length > everything else.

A ton of options out there with very little independent testing, and what little there is seems quite dated. Elite Iron, AAC, Barrett, AWC, Innovative Arms, OSS, Anzio Ironworks, and Delta P Designs all claim theirs is best, and I'm in no position to evaluate those claims. Any guidance based on the above criteria would be appreciated.

TL;DR: cost is no object which .50bmg suppressor do you choose for a two-way range and why?

I think we may be doing another run of our CGS Keres 50 silencers coming up soon. You'd have to contact the shop to find out on that.

As far as we know there isn't a quieter 50BMG silencer than the Keres, but we haven't tested an Elite Iron model yet and I'm not sure what's inside their silencers. Keres weighs around 4lbs, never noticed any flash out of it. It uses a similar system as our Hyperion silencers so it doesn't get baffle erosion like a traditional silencer and people that have used it that have used other 50BMG silencers say it's not as punishing on recoil.

Here are some videos: Keres 50, here, here, and here

Kyle from KG Made in the first video is another silencer manufacturer. He can attest to its capabilities.

Elite Iron... Because I have one! I could go on about 'em and why but that 2 way range comment cost 'ya.

Seriously though, DTA recommends 'em, always have, and for the price there simply is no better suppressor mfg. in any caliber. I think of Elite as a lot like TBAC only in 316SS. Which is what you want that BMG can made out of. They don't get used enough to warrant $4k+ cans nor carried enough to warrant Ti IMO/E and as for suppression? It's a BMG, don't expect much. A better metric would be to determine how that mfg's other cans tally up. And Elite measures up well, I wish I had more of them.

If you've been talking to that worm that shills for AWC, let me stop you now. No, there isn't a BMG can that will take the noise down to .22 levels. Oh, another hit for Elite, they can index the can 12 o'clock as well as cut you a new brake and index that too so you won't need shims when going back and forth.

I think they even come in your choice of Cerakote IIRC, they certainly couldn't have matched it any better in my case:

PS, if you don't have one already, see if you can score an LRA bipod --there simply is NO better on one of these rifles.

Thanks for the advice so far folks.

paco ramirez that looks promising, but I've heard flow-through designs have increased flash vs. traditional baffle stacks. Have you shot it much at night, especially in comparison to other .50cal cans or flash hiders?

Strykervet what an awesome setup! I'm going for something very similar, thanks for the recommendation on the LRA bipod. Since it looks like you are using it at night, what's the flash like on it?

It's not a flow through design. Done some past sunset shooting with it with a multitude of ammo types, haven't seen a flash that I can recall. Works well with Mk211 too. I don't know of anyone putting a flash hider on a 50BMG bolt gun, that's not something we've done. Haven't done flash comparison with other companies silencers. We test with a McMillan TAC 50 and Cadex Tremor.

But to answer the question anyway, increased flash is design dependent. Just as you can have a normal silencer will crappy flash reduction, the same thing could happen with a flow through model, but it's not specific to one generic description or the other.

If you're close to FL we'll have it at the NFA Review shoot coming up in November I'm sure.

I have an AAC Cyclops and it is really quiet compared to other 50 cans I have been around.

But the recoil on a suppressed 50 bolt gun is substantial, at least on my AX-50. Enough that I stopped shooting after 5 rounds for fear of detaching a retina. My Dakota 416 Rigby kicks less with full power elephant stopping ammo. On my 107 it is tolerable. Like shooting full power slugs.

Now days my Cyclops mostly lives on my 510 Whisper, which is more fun than drowning kittens.

I got approved for one, now I just need to get it built. Going to be 2.5”-3” in diameter and 18” long. It is going on a 24” barreled rifle.

I’ve built all of my silencers.

I might do a bigger version of this one. E625DBCA-E13D-4822-A356-5B810FA56254.png
The inner tube is stainless tube that is 1.25” in diameter and holds the 13 cone baffles made of 17-4. The outer tube is 1.5” and the end caps screw into the inner tube to compress the 1.5” outer tube made of .035” titanium. The holes in the blast chamber vent into the space between the inner and outer tubes. It is a 30 caliber can and is as quiet as any commercial can I have shot with it. Supers are really good sounding but subsonic loads out of my 300 Blackout Encore are magical. Using super fast pistol powders you can hear the bullet flying through the air.
