Another AAC-SD 308 with my twist

Re: Another AAC-SD 308 with my twist

Interesting.

I don't think I would have drilled the bolt handle. That is one of the 700's weak points. The handle frequently has voids in it, hitting them when drilling is one risk, having one exist in the little bit of metal left is another. It does look neat, but breaking a bolt handle truly does suck.

I am curios as to why you chose ARMS rings.

Re: Another AAC-SD 308 with my twist

There are two issues that would prevent me from using the ARMS rings.

First, there is just too much going on. Look at how many pieces go into an ARMS ring.

Second, they place your scope too high for the stock you are using.

Unless you really need the QD feature of the rings you would be better served with a good set of Seekins or Badger rings. If you are on a tight budget, I have had good experiences from TPS TSR rings.

Awesome job! I just brought home the same rifle yesterday. I enjoyed your videos. Was interesting to watch the rifle transform from one state to another with just a few shavings of metal!

Re: Another AAC-SD 308 with my twist

Where can I get the bolt knob looking to upgrade mine. Also, have the burris rings and base on my remmy 700 with a bushnell xlt 600 doa ret. Works great for me.

Re: Another AAC-SD 308 with my twist

The ARMS rings are well made, but with that scope and rings setup, the rifle is packing some un-necessary extra pounds.

For a field rifle, I'd go with a much smaller scope with good glass, aluminum rings and flute that barrel...

The rifle would end up several pounds lighter and handle much better.

Just put white teflon pipe tape under it.

Nice rifle but I'd ditch the scope and mounts. Millett scopes are garbage and it's only a matter of time before it fails you and your sacrificing cheek weld with those rings. They're way too high.

I kind of second this. Your rifle is so nice, I feel it deserves a better mount, rings, optic package.
