Gunsmithing another barrel fluting question

Re: another barrel fluting question

It depends on the caliber and thickness of the barrel you are starting with.

I would leave .250" of thickness from the bore to the bottom of the flutes.

Re: another barrel fluting question

It's a .284 with a muzzle dia of .840 and tapers to .965 just ahead of the chamber. Adams and Bennet F54 contour, 7mm08 stainless. It's an inexpensive barrel for a Mauser action I have and thought it would be fun to flute for the experience. I was thinking 6 flutes, maybe .220 wide, would give even widths all around. For what you're saying, I can only go .078 deep. Might be close.
