A man with a lengthy criminal history of violent offenses snuck into a CCW safety class at The Range 702 on 5999 Dean Martin Drive in Las Vegas. He attempted to steal a class attendee's handgun out of a gym bag but was quickly stopped by the attendee and range employees, who initially ordered him to leave the premises. The perp tried to enter the range's main office shortly after, prompting range employees to call the police. Two officers arrive, and as they are attempting to take this man into custody, he strikes one cop in the head with a screwdriver. As she falls to the ground, her partner, and three range employees all open fire at once. The perp, Marvon Payton Jr., was struck 14 times and pronounced dead at the scene. The injured officer's partner, Andrew Nguyen, had fired 9 rounds in total. Payton's previous criminal charges included attempted robbery, attempted robbery of a firearm, attempted murder, and felony assault.

She should be okay. None of the news channels mentioned anything else about her condition. If she was seriously injured, it would have been written about. Also, based on the pic in the video supplied in the original article, it looked like the screwdriver was broken off at the tip from the beginning. Blunted. Might have grazed along the skull rather than penetrating to a serious degree. Anyways, extremely hairy situation though. Cop's partner responded fast and range employees were already charging across the parking lot with their own guns drawn.
