The FBI's Joint Terrorism Task Force became involved after European intelligence counterparts told them Johnson had used Instagram to issue security threats to a Catholic high school in England. The threats "were so severe in nature," local officials discovered, "that up to 100 students were removed from the school fearing some kind of attack."

One of the messages threatened: "By Allah, we will kill every single Infidel student at this school." Johnson told FBI agents he "was supportive of known terrorist Anwar al Awlaki" -- the spiritual patron of lone-wolf jihadists.

The FBI's plan of action? Inaction.

Jeez... What the fuck do these people even do for a living?

@AJ - Pretty sure making terroristic threats is a federal thing where they'd at least have some jurisdiction, but AFAICT from the article, they just diddled their doodads.

According to records released by the Jupiter Police Department, local officials were told the charges would be brought in the summer of 2017. But on the early morning of the jihad stabbings at Palm Beach Gardens last week, the FBI and U.S. Attorney's Office had yet to take action on a known radicalized threat who had menaced his family, his schoolmates and innocents abroad.

Its also a state and local crime , why are our officials not taking action, the feds are disconnected, the locals are not. When everyone is responsible no one is responsible, this is the problem, generally I trust the locals more than the DC swampians.

For sure. At least to me, it sounds like the FBI said to the locals, 'hey, we got this.' and the locals trusted that. The FBI then did abso-nothingly-squat.

However, we spend how much on the FBI every year? My question was 'What do these guys do for a living?' - Why do we have them? Do they do anything other than facilitate shit like the underwear bomber or mastermind plots to eliminate people leaking information about their bullshit? What's the last thing the FBI did that was actually worth anything?

I'm not talking multi-agency operations. I'm not completely convinced that the role of the FBI in things like the Vegas shooting are in the best interest of the USA, or, for that matter, the gang raids they participated in recently.

They seem to known a lot about a lot, but do nothing about it. They're like those motherfuckers following some topic and after things go tits-up, they're like, "Oh yeah, I knew that was gonna happen".

Where is the value in that shit?

NYPD does not wait for the FBI, they act. The role of the FBI is not to handle local issues, if there is a foreign connection then they should inform and get direct involved as needed. They really should assign all their agents to the public corruption division and clean their own house first then go after the swamp and state corruption according to the letter of the law.

Although it should be like that, FBI gets involved in local matters all the time, shoving local law enforcement out of the way. And someone radicalized by ISIS seems to have enough foreign connection for the FBI to have dibs. But internally the FBI has some gay-ass rules about not discriminating against muslims, so they are hamstrung.
