Good Morning,

i have a stock rem 700 .308 20" sps. Ive done a few things to it..AICS,cerakote,etc..Shoots well but trigger pull is heavy. it has the xmark on it. Question is since ive already put $$ into the rifle should i upgrade to a Shilen trigger or Timney? Or just try to adjust the remington trigger? Ive read that the stock trigger sometimes gives problems in the long run, anyone heard of this?. Any advise will do thanks.

Re: Another Rem Trigger question..

Simple actually.Try adjusting the xmark down to its lowest pull weight and try it out.If you can't get it to "feel" right to you after a bit of trial and error, then move to step B and get a Timney or equivulent trigger.I have an xmark that felt good to me after adjusting and one that didn't.I got a timney for the one I didn't like and never looked back.On my xmark,I think i just got lucky though.Goodshootin'

Re: Another Rem Trigger question..

I think I saw you post a similar question in another section, but I'll repeat my comments here in case you miss that. I have one of the newer adjustable X Mark pro triggers as well, and it didn't adjust down to a low enough pull for my tastes. I bought a reduced pull replacement spring for a few bucks from erniethegunsmith.com, and am relatively pleased.

It will still break in over time somewhat and not feel the same as a high dollar trigger out of the gate, but most people who have tried Ernie's springs are happy with the trigger after the change.

If you're still not content, then you can drop $300 on a CG X-Treme Mod 22 and only be out an extra $7 for the spring for your old trigger.

For some reason I don't feel this is a good idea.

Maybe something about the "just adjust it as low as it will go".

Then again, it's a great way to get a spot on a NBC special!

If it's the "Adjustable" X-Mark, then you can safely back the screw in the trigger out as far as you want. If it's the standard X-Mark then don't just go cranking on the screws. Know what you are doing and research being able to properly adjust each portion of the trigger.

If you are not willing to do that, then just get a Timney and toss it in. Your family will thank you.

I will not rehash all the crap, but make sure you read up on the Jewell when used in a field rifle. Some claim no problems. Most I have spoken with who have used them hard have had problems.

Re: Another Rem Trigger question..

VERY TRUE! After googling around im gonna just get the Timney. I also read about the Jewell having issues with dirt etc. i plan on keeping a $100+ trigger cleaned correctly but gonna take a shot with the Timney. Has anyone used it with an AICS? curious if any mods with have to be done?
