I’m looking for a relatively inexpensive thermal monocular. Not looking to mount it to a rifle or hunt with it And don’t need a huge detection range. My primary every day use would be to scan the edge of my yard at night when letting the dogs out. It’s about 60-70 yards. A walking trail was built behind the house and recently a teenager was caught staring in a neighbors window while she showered. A couple people were chased out of the yard by my dogs tonight...

Plus we have coyote, skunks, and other pests that move through the trail into the yard. Also, recently a neighbors dog wandered off. And the whole neighborhood searched for hours. She was found the next morning at first light in a muddy cove in an area several of us scanned with flashlights and night vision. But after being in feezing mud all night she never recovered. A thermal would have picked her up... then I think about my toddlers... who love to run. I need to know what’s out there...

At minimum a FLIR scout TK seems “ok” based on reviews. Price is appealing.

What about pulsars pocket sized monocular? Axiom key xm22?

what’s a good mark of utility vs cost?

A FLIR Breach is a little more than I’m hoping to spend... unless it can be really effectively bridged with my PVS14... it could have more appeal then.

suggestions?

See if you can adjust your thread to add the "Night Vision" tag. Left of Title, drop down labeled 'prefix'.

That tag will cue the NV/Thermal SMEs here.

Good luck with the search.

For what you're looking to do have you considered the Sightmark Signal 340RT Digital Night Vision Monocular? It is on sale, reduced from $449.97 to only $299.99.

Thanks. I adjusted the tag. I know @gr8fuldoug is good people. He helped me with my LRF purchase a year ago.

I’ve already got a pretty nice PVS14. TNVC un filmedWP. And I’m saving for duals, which is why I’m not looking to drop a ton of cash on a thermal. Unless I could combine it with the 14 like a Wilcox bridge with a breech.

Im specifically looking for a thermal to spot living stuff in the bushes... the pulsar axiom key xm22 or 30 look like decent options.l?

Check out Will-1's "Helmet mounted thermal and night vision. What it looks like " on page 4. Very interesting post on nv/breach 'fusion'. Will be a bit pricey but your nearly half way there.

AGM Asp Micro TM384.
384 res, records, color pallets, hot spot, small, lightweight, good battery life and is helmet mountable.
It can be had for under a grand if you look around, but normally goes for around $1,250 shipped.
