The insurance companies invented the game, they wrote the rules. I misspoke when I said the "fed", apologies for misleading you. A state supreme court ruled for some plaintiffs but not all. It wasn't a complete rewrite of insurance payouts.
Probably not. Most insurance claims are paid out based on terms stated at the time the contract is signed. A lot of people too fucking stupid to understand what they sign feel fucked over for voluntarily entering into an agreement they didn't understand to begin with.

Insurance is a known scam or a con just like social security and all the rest as far as I'm concerned. Anybody who signs up to participate in a program run by a for profit company or .gov and actually thinks either of them will put the needs of the participant above the greed of the company or .gov isn't the brightest bulb. It's all done "legal-like" with all the protections in place favoring the company or .gov and not the participant. Neither the company or .gov will ever advocate for the participant. Of course tons of lawyers will line up out the door to advocate for the participant but only if there's a pay day in it for them.
This is how it works, this is how it has always worked and how it works is well known but people still act surprised or butt hurt when they don't get something for nothing.
As far as I'm concerned people can always opt out like the Amish. Bellyaching about not winning a game that's rigged is just pathetic.

Even when it was "required" the Amish opted out. It was never 100% mandatory. Anything punishable by a fine is legal for a price.

You seem to be fine with the ultra wealthy getting away with it, because "that's how it's always been". But have a problem with a disgruntled citizen ending their life for it. But that too, "is how it's always been".

You actually don't have the "right" to have a contract faithfully performed regardless of whether you abided the terms or not. You do have the right to expect whatever you want but, as the saying almost goes, expect in one hand, shit in the other and see which one fills up first.
I have personally been through that one and I can tell you all you have is the right to sue someone or some company for not performing by the terms of a contract. IF you win you have the right to TRY to collect your winnings but even then there's no guarantee you'll ever see a dime.

You certainly do. It's called a natural right. Like all such rights, it doesn't come from the law. It comes from the natural behavior of man. Fuck some people over enough, and they will kill you for it, regardless of the law.
As I tell my nephew (odd that someone of your vintage has the same "edge lord" contrarian personality as a teenager), laws just tell you what the price is for some actions. As long as you are willing to pay that cost, you can do anything you want. Alternately, don't do anything that makes hurting you worth the cost. I don't shed a tear when a banger kills a banger, why would I cry if a citizen takes out a piece of shit insurance executive? Criminals and dishonorable men are some of the few who deserve what they get.
