Currently shooting 180 grain Hornady STX... Wondering if anyone has a better suggestion. Shooting a Remington 700 Sendero SF II, 10 twist, 26" heavy barrel. Broke the barrel in with 180 grain, would I need to go through the process again to switch to 190 grain or 200 grain. I've only put 60 rounds through this barrel with 180 grain so far. Wondered about moving up to 190 or 200, want to shoot distance with this rifle and I want the rounds to be consistent. Still getting familiar with this round, I'm an old 308 guy, but a friend told me about his 300 win mag and convinced me. Anyone out there willing to share some wisdom?
Any advice on 300 win mag rounds? Looking for accuracy, preferably below $50 a box...

I have shot a lot of the FGGM 190's. The down side is you are looking at $50 to $54 a box. My hand loads shot better the factory loads as they are tailored for my rifle. The best way to cut costs is reload. The cost savings recoup very quickly when shoot $50 a box ammo.
So does your friend reload and have you asked him this question? I would think reloading would be the only way to squeeze more accuracy outta the 300 Win Mag but for me it would be hard to get better than what my 300 WinMag is getting with 180 gr TSX's? They are doing 0.23 inch at 200 yards with factory Federal Vital Shocks? If I was to shoot any other Factory loads it would be new Black Hills Gold ! Several of my rifles shoot Factory ammo much better than I can load for them ? Yes they cost more but they shoot more accurate?
HogWild what are you getting beyond 200? The next time I take my rifle out I'm shooting 1,000 yards. How far have you pushed your rounds?
And about my friend reloading... No, he's one of those guys that is issued his 190 grain. But, when I was deciding on my rifle he explained, "I know you have the experience with the 308 and I know you trust it... We know you can hit a man sized target at 1000 plus, however I'm hitting an 8" steel plate at 800 meters with the 300 win mag. But, it's your choice..." I never had the experience with the 300 win mag when I was on active duty, but coming from him, someone who has more experience than I will ever have and has forgotten more than I will ever probably learn... I was deffinetely sold. Hopefully one of these days I'll catch him and he'll go out and teach me more about this round, but in the mean time I plan on learning it like I did the 308. I'll log every round and keep my DOPE, and over time I will master it... Just wanted some knowledge from others, cause knowledge in this game, especially on your own, can be an expensive leason to learn.
I think you'd be surprised by how many people wind up at 72.5-73.0 gr H-1000, Federal 215M, Berger 230 OTM about 0.005" off the lands.
If you want a consistent factory round it's hard to beat black hills match 190 grn if you don't reload. If you can I'm running a 10 twist and it loves the 230 Berger OTM
Rifle has not been broken in yet as the group shot was a Range Certification group from the Factory and me shooting it that tight with these old eyes is still to be seen but the 190's you speak of are Black Hills loaded ammo and SMK's on the end of them! Easier for some to get their hands on but with the news ISIS has crossed our Southern Border I might need to load up my Mini 30 sooner than later ! I think 190's will give you the more accurate round but seems everyone here has some great advice as usual!! Trying to duplicate a Black Hills load is not hard to replicate but getting it 100% correct is probably not needed! I have some of the heavier for caliber rounds for it but have not worked any loads up with them yet but eventually will as I recently picked up 100 rnd of RWS brass for it ! Thanks guys for sharing some sweet sounding loads as my components are not lacking ! It's amazing how accurate Factory ammo can really be!
I would shoot a few of these at this price but as mentioned by many the heavier rounds are just a tad slower but this is very close to the same stuff issued to our troops by same manufacturer!

I appreciate the advice from all of you... I will deffinetely look into the BlackHills 190's, thanks for the link HogWild it's much appreciated. As the for the Berger's, those are lil to expensive for my budget. I've heard great things about them, just don't have those kind of funds. Thank yall for the advice though.
Have the same rifle, on a good day I could get 1 moa out of it 2 moa with box loads as shes a deep throated gal. I rebarreled after 500 rounds of that nonsense. Got to roll your own, not just for cost but for accuracy. Nothing cheap about a .300. Get ya some H1000, Rl 22 and 208 hornys about the cheapest it gets for some LR.
OTM & Hybrid Bergers make my stack of Benjamin's scream too much! I figured the 208's were tack drivers as that is probably why I do not have any! My 338-378 is kinda expensive to shoot to say the least!! It is a tack driver as well as it has a low round count and a new S&B PMII up top and I need to go site both of those in really soon ! That should be a lotta fun as I had Charlie from High Score do his tracking worksheet on both of these rifles and the S&B gives me 66 MOA prior to sight in whic I will loose a little during that but I have run my numbers on JBM and only need 22.5 MOA to get to 1200 yds! I think my second rev on windage will not get used too often but I do have room out here in NM to stretch it out! My range has a 1 K yard range but I have to qualify prior to using it! I am getting 3180 outta Factory ammo in my 338-378 and it's a thumper!! Timney is sweet to pull on !
I've been wanting to try out Southwest Ammo as they've got very reasonable pricing on 190 gr SMK match ammo. If you read some of the threads on them you will see that they had some growing pains but seem to have straightened themselves out. I may buy a couple hundred rounds and see how they perform as it would be good to have a decent supplier at reasonable prices. However, as others have suggested, I'd highly recommend investing in reloading equipment if you're running a 300 Win Mag. That was a major part of the decision for me when I decided to jump in with a semi-custom 300 Win Mag earlier this year. The cost of boxed match ammo is outrageous so you will save a ton over time and get far better accuracy to boot. Besides, if your Rem 700 is like mine and many others, it has a long throat and most match bullets like to be seated close to the lands...which means longer OAL for ultimate accuracy.

I've had tremendous success with once fired Federal military brass (fully cleaned, full length resized, primer pocket uniformed and deburred) with Federal 215 magnum primers as well as CCI primers, 71.1 gr of RE22 powder and 190 gr SMKs seated .020 off the lands. I get 2950 on the chrono and it's been proven accurate out to 1000 yards. My cost per round is approx $.77 depending on how many firings I can get out of each piece of brass. That's far better than $2 +/- per round!
My next project is to work up a load with 208 gr AMAX bullets and see which load works better. I also have some 200 and 210 gr SMKs laying around that I'd like to try too. Using the OCW method, it doesn't take many rounds or that long to come up with a great load for your rifle. Buy your reloading materials in bulk when possible and you'll be good to go for a while.
Either way you decide to go, enjoy shooting the heck out of it!

One word - RELOAD.
I have a direct source for 300WM TAP and it's literally $3/round.
If I reload, I can get it within a grain, for $1.50-$2.00 doing it myself.
Brass is expensive but, it lasts for a while if you do your homework.
My honest suggestion is to invest in a press because by the time you've shot your 200th round, you could have saved yourself well over the cost of a press by reloading it, yourself.
Hodgdon H1000, CCI Magnum Rifle Primers, Hornady 208 Amax / Sierra 220 HPBT / Berger 210, Any quality brass you can find -- Throw it together and 1K+ aint a problem, anymore.
