Is there any difference between Federal Match brass and standard Federal brass in lets say the 308 Win?
I cannot see any visable differences but I have not taken the time to study both sets of brass when reloading.
If they are different, would the cycling thru the reloading dies make both types so close that you could not tell the difference.
Let me know your findings...
Thanks... SmokeRolls

Re: Any difference between Federal M brass and stand ?

I've picked up FGMM brass and I've picked up the regular. The headstamps are the same and there appears to be no difference besides the FGMM brass being shinier.

Re: Any difference between Federal M brass and stand ?

Shinier means more accuracy.

Other than that I haven't seen a difference in any I have used lol.

Yep.. I agree with the more bling equals more accuracy.
I thought about chroming my rifle and putting some ground effects on it and maybe some tiny fuzzy dice but I don't want to make other people feel inadequate... Hahahahaha

Maybe the Match brass has one more engineer peeking over the workers shoulders while he loads the bullets, saying "good job".

Re: Any difference between Federal M brass and stand ?

I have bought two separate batches of Fed .308 brass and just don't know whether/how many of them were FGMM.

What I *can* tell you is that within every box of 20, both FGMM and Hornady Match .308s have a maximum spread of case weight of exactly 1.0 to 1.1 grains.

Our loading for long range thread says to keep them within 2 grains weight.

QuickLOAD says the velocity difference from one version of the brass* lightest to heaviest cases (3.46 grains weight and about .223 grains of water capacity) is a whopping 5 fps.

So, I'd venture to say that just sort your FC cases to within 2 grains of case weight and you'll be fine.

*Some of the "older" batch has smaller headstamps and is another 17 grains lighter in weight than the bulk of the newer stuff. THAT's staying in a separate batch.

Thats good to know about the smaller headstamp being 17 grains lighter. I already was keeping the smaller headstamp seperated from the larger headstamp.
Thanks for that info.
I apreciate the imput guys.
Any more info would also be appreciated.....

There's nothing like weighing YOUR cases to know for sure. I'm a bit embarrassed that I didn't do it until now, having relied on the so-called "consistency" of commercial brass. Of course, that first batch was used exclusively on blasting ammo anyway...

Like your sign line, but if you're screwed on the right nut, you're STILL screwed.

Hahahahaha... The devil's in the details.
I'm laughing because you being an attorney would see things that most people don't.
Take care and thanks for your findings.
