I have had good experiences buying and trading things on this site - as well as a gunbroker and a couple of other places. However, the potential for people being "had" is considerable. My question for you legal types is this, if one pays for a gun using a postal money order is there then cause to pursue a non performing party on a more aggressive basis, because of a federal fraud since the US postal system was used? Or is this a bit of a stretch? I understand that the hassle and potential expense of pursuing someone legally may not be worth it, especially across state lines,, etc. Was just curious if there was any benefit to the buyer in this instance.

Its always best to get ripped off and do nothing about it . Why bother even trying ?? Its like having a CCP and giving up to a robbery with out a fight !!

Now for real , as you , I have had nothing but great deals on GB , Light fighter , M14 forum and yes , even ARF.com .

The post office , local LEO's , and ATF will get involved over a Postal MO , and it gets even better across state lines .

Lots of opinions, all of which appear to be more concerned with the poster of the opinion than with helping the OP. The lesser included sub-rule to Graham's Rule #1 is not to take legal advice from people who haven't a clue.

Federal agents don't spend their time tracking down postal money receipts. If they did, this would be a very different world. Think about it: when you buy a money order at the post office are you really purchasing a federal fraud response for the cost of $1.10? I don't think so. A money order is only a convenient alternative to sending cash.

Anyone interested in a concrete answer to the original question can Google USAM 9-43.100. That's the prosecution policy relating to mail fraud. Isolated transactions between individuals and minor losses don't meet the threshold for prosecution, and the reason why isn't rocket science.
