Just wanted to see if anyone else was pursuing some long range rifle shooting in these parts. I've been a member out at Capital City Gun Club for the past ten years and have kind of outgrown our 300yd range. I picked up a new DTA SRS .338 Lapua a few weeks ago and just finished load development. Have bullet speed and environment loaded into the Kestrel and am trying to stretch this thing out a bit. Anyone know of an area to shoot out to 1000yds or more? I had linked up with a few guys from KC on here a while back and was supposed to go shoot their 1400yd range but lost contact. :/

We are shooting a long range match almost every month out at Spearpoint Ranch. It's north of Lincoln, KS a few miles and the Wirth family are great people. They have a family farm and run a guide service during the hunting season (no long range matches during hunting season). We've been shooting steel out to 1400 yards in an informal match. Great place to shoot and a lot of fun but...Steve's steel won't handle the .338. He has limited it to .30 calibers. If you've been shooting at Cap City then you'll have to drive about 150 miles west to get there. Email Steve and ask him about your caliber. Most are shooting .308 Win of course but we have some shooting the 6.5 whizz bangs and other calibers. The Wirths set up some challenging stages including moving targets a 400+ yards. A group of guys that came out last match said they had been shooting a long range match in Missouri somewhere but I didn't get the information on it.

I've been looking at Spearpoint and have actually corresponded with Steve a couple times. i really wish they had some heavier steel. I will probably get my own heavy gauge targets at some point and maybe they'll let me bring them and use them.

A friend and I also found another spot but it's WAY far away. It's called Rebel Ridge Outfitters. It's about an hour north of Elkhart KS and sits on the boarder of Colorado. I guess they have a 2000yd range with no caliber restrictions and they also offer prairie dog hunts. $50 a day(per person) to rent the range.

I would really like to meet up with someone that has private land and just start buying targets and building up a range with them...
