I've always thought that the ultimate long range cartridge would be something like a .30-50BMG being a necked down 50 cal. I'd think you could get way into the 4K velocities with .308 diameter bullets.

barrett 416 is a necked down bmg case to .416 Thats pretty much all i have heard that is readily avaliable. 375 cheytac is the popular one these days and will likely end up being the go to round for extreme long range 2000-3000 yds.

The .375 CT case comes from the .408 CT case. The .408 CT was it's own case design and doesn't come from the .50 BMG case. Just thought I should throw that out there.

460 Steyr is a 458 dia bullet in a 50 BMG as I understand it.

The 50 DTC is a 50 BMG imp essentially, it's a bit shorter but the new body angle (reduced) and improved shoulder angle help with the powder capacity and capabilities of the round.

416 Barret was mentioned above, I thought at one point that a 408-50 BMG would be pretty nifty, I wouldn't want to go smaller than 375-50BMG because of the cost of barrels.

About a year ago I read about someone who developed (?) a 338/50 bmg round.Never heard anything else ( he's dead???) and barrel life was something like 150 rds or so.Found this on a internet search, try it and see what comes up...
