I'm going to mount some on the SIDE of the stock and run a TAB biathlon sling.

Any pitfalls I should know about? Is the stock the same thickness everywhere or are there any cavities?

Make sure the butt isn't hollow where you plan on putting the cup.
The epoxy is only as strong as what its grabbing. Im not sure the stock material will be ideal for holding a flush cup in.
I've only put em in Mcmillans though.

I installed some in a Rem LTR stock which is probably similar. The fronts were no issue as there is plenty of material. The rear had to be mounted in the bottom inch or so, which is solid, as the center of the butt was hollow. I used 5 minute epoxy and added a small screw through the back end on the cup as extra holding power. It was secure enough that I was able to pull as hard as I could without the cups pulling loose.
