Re: Anybody on the Hide flute bolts thanks

seriously this gets asked almost once a week.

Karl Feldkamp at Kampfeld Customs is my recommendation.

Re: Anybody on the Hide flute bolts thanks

I recently saw a Kampfeld bolt for the first time. Yes, he does do a nice job. Well machined with virtually no toolmarks. I use a different cutter geometry. No real advantage or anything, just different. Its a flat root with 45* edges instead of a full radius.

Re: Anybody on the Hide flute bolts thanks

Is there a distinct advantage for getting a bolt flutted, or is simply for cosmetic reasons? Don't get me wrong, I think it looks very nice, was just wondering if there is a performance reason such as cooling?

Re: Anybody on the Hide flute bolts thanks

I just started taking a cnc milling class this semester, I wonder how hard that is to do.

people try to justify it will all sorts of silly ideas but when it comes down to it, it's just for looks.

So easy, a Cave Man can do it!

To some it looks like Hellen Keller tried to type something ( that's what I thought the first time I stepped in front of the controller at Lynwood's shop).

middle of the bolt body is z0 and he's ramping in/out in the xy and feeding in the xa. x0 is somewhere on the right side of the part but i'm not sure where y0 is. even after the ramp in, it looks like he is cutting air if y0 is the back side of the bolt body itself.

Re: Anybody on the Hide flute bolts thanks

I might add that Chad (Longriflesinc)does excellent work... I have a 338 Edge that he built, and he has fluted a couple bolts for me all with perfection!!! One of the best guys I have delt with when it comes to gunsmith work, straight forward and no B.S.!!!!

Re: Anybody on the Hide flute bolts thanks

+1 for Chad D. he did a few for me and they look great. (fast too)
