Anybody own a kimber tactical 308 or 300 ?

Looking at these, they can come with an a-5 mcmillan stock and look pretty sweet.


Want to reach out and touch something a little more than my sako 270, so I was thinking the 300WM....anybody have groups or info on them?

Also considering a TRG 22/42, a built 700 Remy, or maybe a Cooper.

TRG 22/42 Accurate, reliable, top value, great resale, & you don't have to use the factory assys. Anthony

Had a buddy who had a Kimber. Would not shoot so he sold it.

That's the thing I don't get. I looked hard at Kimber and FN rifles before I bought my last rifle, I love the Model 70 action. But I already knew I had roughly a 25% chance of getting one that wouldn't shoot ... maybe higher. Seems there are too many reviews on the net and print articles from users and from magazine writers who have a Kimber tactical or FN tactical that just won't shoot. While one rarely hears of a plain old Savage or 700P that won't bust MOA. And considering how many 10FPs and 700Ps are sold each month that's significant. Anyway ... I just never understood why a rifle costing far, far more stood a higher chance of being a turd and needing to be sent back. Don't get that one.

Search for a thread by "Poke". As I recall, he was not thrilled with his. For the same money, a TRG is a much safer choice. AG

Thanks guys. I'd hate to buy a expensive rifle that won't out shoot my hunting rifle (Sako 270 fiberclass).

I think maybe TRG, even though I really like the Mcmillan A-5 stock better. Resale/investment seam to make it a better choice.

I have the Kimber Advanced Tactical in 308. It has the adj stock and its pretty much a lazer beam. With my handloads I shoot 10 shot groups into a ragerd hole. I also own a TRG-22 and a FN-SPR A2. I use the same load in all 3 rifles,and get the same accuracy results in all 3. Maybe I got lucky, or mayby it's all the time I put behind the trigger.

I ran into a guy at the local range who had 8500 Tactical, It performed well out to 600, the guy who owned it was holding well under a minute. I thought it was a nice rifle, but if I had to choose I would probably go with a TRG.

I had a chance to speak with the head gunsmith, Cary, of the tactical/custom division a number of months ago. He laid it out for the rifles and explained that the 8400 Advanced Tactical does not leave the factory unless it can shoot .5 MOA or better with BOTH 168gr and 175gr. I don't if know they also do that to the standard 8400 Tactical or not. The only difference is the contour of the barrel with the Advanced having a Bull contour and the standard Tactical having a sporter, and of course the stock.

Where the 84M LPT, 8400 Patrol and 8400 Police Tactical stand, I don't know.

GET THE TRG and dont look back!


I can tell you I still have my Kimber Advanced Tactical 300WM but I can also tell you it has been replaced with a GA Precision 300WM. Me and a buddy ordered 1 each and the results are about the same.

Here is a pic of the GAP that replaced it. I picked it up off the EE for like $2000 and have shot it at least 200-300 rounds now and its all there in the accuracy department. My Kimber is there too but it took quite a bit to get it there.

BTW if all your after is the features, get a Remy 700 XCR LR or 5R and have it put into an A5. You will save a bunch of green doing this and it will most likely shoot. Plus you get the benefits of a DBM setup
