I wanted to get some load data on what you all are loading to get good results out of your Fireball. I just shot mine with 20 gr hornady's and H335, and benchmark with subpar results. Any help would be appreciated.
I shoot it as well and have tried 20 gr of Benchmark and my results are also not steller. But I did have better results with the Remington bullet than I did with the Hornady. I have not yet tried backing off the load or changing the depth yet. My groups are about 1" at 100 right now. I also might try a heavier bullet but I really like the 4000 fps.
Just picked up a pound of H4198. I have read people are getting good results with it. I also like the 4000fps that is why I want to stick with the 20gr plugs.
The best information for the 17 calibers can be found at the "Saubiers" forum. They are sub caliber experts over there.
Which rifle do you have?? Some of the Remingtons have a longer throat and the 20's do not do so well in them. But the 30's seem to shoot so much better. Even the 25's.
There is a fellow who runs a small company that sells stuff that caters to sub calibers. The name of his place is "The Wood Chuck Den". He has a fantastic reloading manual for 17 caliber cartridges,, as well as wildcats. His name is Todd Kindler and he makes a fantastic shooting bullet for the 17. You may have heard of them they are called Kindler Gold's. Tom.
Alright shot H4198 behind 20 gr Hornady's and got better results with it over Benchmark and H335. Did load workups in .2 gr increments. Had a few groups that were .75" or less. Gonna tweak these loads a little and see if I can find a sweet spot. So far this is the best combination yet!
I have a file with about 100 loads from saubier.com that I can send. I am using VV133 andd a 20g Vmax for 4110 fps out of my 25" Shilen barreled CZ. If anyone wants the file they can send me a PM.
