    The land of many waters
I am in the process of trying to set up a website but it is all gibberish to me and everyone talks in so many damn acronyms that it makes the military look easy to understand. I just need some basic pointers on how to install the software and other shit that I apparently need but have no idea what it is, let alone how to get it.

I am not trying to do anything complicated, just basic setup.

    Thanks

Do you have a web hosting platform - Is it Linux or Windows?

All you really need to create any web site is a text editor. But there are tools that make it easier.

I'm not a web dev but I might be able to help.
If you want send me more info about the type of website you're trying to build (e-commerce, blog, business) and the platform you're planning to use.

I am specifically trying to install phpbb forum software and I have no idea on how to get to a working forum from where I am now, which is only having a registered domain name.

Just to be clear, this forum will in no way compete with SH or cover the same genre of material.

Now that you have a domain, you need to find a hosting service. Typically hosting services have tools to quickly build sites and add modules, like forums...

Yeah, the hosting service I have found is pushing wordpress but that seems more like a blog. I think PHPBB is more like a real forum. I'll try to get some work done on it so that I can post back here with the issues I find. It'll probably take me a week or so due to work schedule.

There are hosting services that provide phpbb modules and customization features.

Check for a hosting provider with cPanel control panel. It comes with a library of quick install apps including phpBB.
Send me a PM which is the hosting so I can check it, usually if they're pushing for a particular app it's a red flag, for them it shouldn't matter.

I have a friend from church who does this for a living with his own company.
We volunteer together. And shoot together.
    USMC vet.

Not sure its his cup of tea, but I can ask him if you want and put you two in contact.
