I'm poking around for a heavy barrel trainer. I have a 52B reproduction, but would like to pick up something with a heavier barrel. The 541T guns look to have a slight following, with the S model having the rep of being more accurate. I would like to have a 40X, but may end up settling for a 541 or 504T. I don't want to put the big money in an Annie just yet, and don't want to budget my way in and not be happy.

541T's are preferred simply for the triggers over a 513T. 541, 540Xr and 581's are essentially the same rifle and good triggers can be had especially from the 540XR's. 541/81's have crappy mags but hell they only hold 5 rounds and if you don't step on them they will last a good while. Both are/can be made into good shooters. The 513/541 stocks are EXTERNALLY identical and very similar to the Winchester Marksman stocks of long ago or the HS Precision / PSS stocks of today. The 541T is not a bad rifle to start with and upgrade as you see fit.

Cheers,

Doc

I have had a 541S for many years... Frankly, I love it... It shoots nickel size groups at 100yds with Federal Grey box ammmo...

I tweeked the trigger... Breaks perfect at about 1.5-2lbs..

I love it...

I have a remmy 541T-HB that I did the whole conversion to....tactical knob on the bolt handle, trigger work, custom made Manners stock, bipod and Leupold Mk 4.LUV IT! Feels right, looks right, shoots like a demon. Was it cheap? Nope....but I don't regret it for a second. Go for it!
