Was looking for a helmet light for a 2nd helmet setup and I like the dual output capability of the XH35. I've just never seen or held one in person and was curious how this would fare as a helmet light mounted on the typical side rail like most do. On my current helmet I have the Gen 1 Inforce light and like the IR/WL capabilities but feel it really lacks if I am out in the desert/outside and basically want a big, bright light.

I was looking at the XH35 because it has a select able 300 lumen light that has worked well for me indoors and for general use, as well as a 1000 lumen light for when you just want to blind the shit out of everyone. It's a bit shorter than the Inforce only 1oz more and the bezel diameters are similiar so they are roughly the same size overall.

Anyone used one or have a better idea?

I have no experience with that one, but the SF Vampire has been great. The low and the high on both the IR and the white are great. Reach up, give it a twist to switch between IR or white.

Mine rides in a V-Tac offset mount and I also like the red / blue / white Princeton I have on the other side.

Between little tasks and cruising around at night - this has been a great combo for me.

I have the dual spectrum Surefire light on my carbines. Forget which one but its the Scout that has IR/White/lockout turns on the bezel.

The only time I usually use white light coming from my helmet is when I'm actively searching for something or have to really illuminate something where I'm not worried about being seen or when I'm inside in a situation where the advantage of being there quietly in the dark is long gone. Otherwise I use the IR illum from my PEQ15, IR setting on my Scout (which is normally set for white, so I have the option of both on a tapeswitch on the carbine). The helmet is basically supplemental to this and I liked the dual purpose of 300 lumens which are manageable and 1000 which are kind of, 'fuck you, lights on'. :D
