Most of the mounts I have on my rifles are not one piece rails. This may be a dumb question, but has anyone successfully used the feeler gauges on two piece mounts?

like I said, probably a dumb question...I guess everyone is using one piece. Just seems like some people view feeler gauges as the end all solution....
