So. Cal.
I was doing some research and noticed that the custom comp .308 175gr, has the same BC as the SMK 175gr.
Who has had good luck with this projectile?
Is the load recipe similar to the SMK, and what is your recipe?
What rifle are you using?

I've got a rem700 PSS, 18" 1/12".

thanks, Merry Christmas to all!

Re: Anyone using Nosler Custom comp projectiles?

Not sure on their 175's but I loading some Comps in 168 HPBT and get as good a result as with the more expensive Bergers. Granted, I shoot the short range, but the hole they leave is the same ragged pattern as the Bergers. Guess this is just a give the Noslers a try comment.

P.S. Their 69gr. Comps are outstanding too.

LOL! Sure bet you can feel that bolt slamming back and forth especially when it hits the bolt stop. I've always heard that LC case were a little on the small size powder capacity-wise, so I got to wonder what the pressure is like.

Any idea?

Re: Anyone using Nosler Custom comp projectiles?

Haven't use them in anything in 308, but in 223 with the 52,69,77 and 80gr Nosler CC... wouldn't use nothing else. I found them to be more consistent than Sierra's. That if you're only want to be using HPBTs.

Re: Anyone using Nosler Custom comp projectiles?

I haven't been able to get the 175's here yet, but the 168's can be changed willy nilly with the Sierras.

They do go into the same hole,

I performed 3 tests on 3 targets.

Test 1 was a 5 shot group with Sierras.

Test 2 was the same load with Noslers and

Test 3 was a 10 shot group with 5 Sierra loads and 5 Nosler loads mixed up. Just take a round, fire, reload etc.

All of the targets looked the same.

When I finally get some 175's I will do the same.

What's your shooting platform? Then, if you will, pass on the load data. I have a pet load, but if you're using other than IMR 4064, in the .308,the data would be added to my records as reference points when the 4064 runs out.

It would be most helpful if Hide members would give complete powder designations, i.e 4895? H or I.

I'm shooting an Amalite 10-T, and a Rem. 40X. Have been shooting Berger moly 168's and figure the Nos. will do as well in .308. and for a lot less $$.

Just got in 500 Comp 69's and will be using RL-15 and TAC to launch them. 20 and 24" 1:8 twist. So data from you guys would be helpful. My best with Berger 52's was with BLC-(2)

Thanks!

I'm looking for a powder that will allow me to use my 550 for most applications. Varget is everyones favorite, but I'm hoping to find a powder that meters better, and will allow me to shoot 69's and up in .223 and 155-168's in .308. RL-15, and TAC seem to fit this.

Re: Anyone using Nosler Custom comp projectiles?

thanks for the feedback gents and ladies if your among us lead dispensers...

good to hear that i have an alternative to the SMK. I am going to pickup some 168's as well. I need to have some backups too.

I am running Varget for my 175gr SMK, 45.0gr. win brass, fed 210 primer.

its hard to get power here in cali... i need to get some other stuff too.

Re: Anyone using Nosler Custom comp projectiles?

I have been working on USAammo's match round load development. They are using the Nosler 175's and they shoot very well.

I used the Nosler 155's in 300 yard F-type competitions. They have a much lower BC. However, they are very forgiving rounds that you can drive the shit out of. I like them.

Re: Anyone using Nosler Custom comp projectiles?

I've been loading the 155CC's to 2830fps. Shot it out to 1000yds yesterday at 3300-4200 D/A. 10.2mils, no problems. Once I doped the wind, consistently in the 10-X ring.

I loaded 77g SMK's, 77g Nosler and 75g Hornady for my son's AR.

Loading with TAC powder in LC brass, the Noslers were 15-20% smaller group than the SMK's and half of the Hornady's at every load level. And they were cheaper. (Platform was S&W MP15, 1:9 twist, 16")

Nice, my duty rifle is a S/W mp15-t , great gun, i got 1/4" at 100 with the 69gr smk.... so hoping for similar with the nosler, hoping for similar dope with my .308 as well

Re: Anyone using Nosler Custom comp projectiles?

I loaded some 52gr and 77gr. Nosler CC for my .223 (cant remember what propelant I used) but I havnt shot them yet. All this talk about how good they shoot, I cant wait to see what they do out of my rifle.

Re: Anyone using Nosler Custom comp projectiles?

gnfiter 3,

223 is on AR 15 Service Rifle platform Krieger bbl 1/7.75

52gr HPBT Nosler CC OAL 2.195
LC brass
Wolf Sm Mag Rifle
RL 10x 24.0gr (will drop well in 550)
100yd load (200yd on a very very Lt wind day)

69gr HPBT Nosler CC OAL 2.260
LC brass
Wolf Sm Mag Rifle
Varget 25.3 (will not drop well in 550 & slightly compress load)
200yd load

77gr HPBT Nosler CC OAL 2.260
LC brass
Wolf Sm Mag Rifle
Varget 24.5 (will not drop well in 550)
100-300yd load

80gr HPBT Nosler CC (SINGLE LOAD ONLY) .020 OFF LANDS
WIN brass
CCI BR-4 SR
RL 15 24.5 ( a little better than Varget on drop in 550, but wouldn't waste my time with the 550. Need to be on the money with this load as far as the powder drop)
600yd load

308 on M1A Service Rifle (NM) platform Krieger bbl 1/10

155gr HPBT Nosler CC OAL 2.775
LC brass
CCI BR-2 LR
VV-135 43.0gr (not great, but better then most extruded on drop in 550)
100-200yd load

168 HPBT Nosler CC OAL2.800
LC brass
CCI BR-2 LR
VV-140 43.0 (better than Varget on the drop in 550)
100-300yd load

175 HPBT Nosler CC (SINGLE LOAD ONLY .020 OFF LANDS)
FED brass
RWS LR
VV-140 42.3 (Don't even try dropping this load on 550 to get performance)
600yd load

These loads have work well for me, but the 550 powder drop has little to be desire. I tried to use it, but couldn't count on the consistency to make it worth the effort. The AR 10 platform will probably do well with these 308 loads, but trying to get a hold of RWS Lg rifle primers would take an act of GOD! I would go with CCI BR-2 Rifle Primers & drop .5gr off the 175gr load I have above. RWS Rifle Primers has a very light ignition, but consistent.
Good luck

Re: Anyone using Nosler Custom comp projectiles?

I use them and they work at short distances well - 400 and less.

NOTE: Loads developed in 92* + temps.
Middle accuracy node 2754FPS avg.
SPS Varmint .308
Nosler 155 CC
Win Brass
Wolf LR Primer
45.6gr Varget

High accuracy node(1) 2887 fps avg
Nosler 155 CC
Win Brass Wolf LR Primer
Wolf LR Primer
46.8gr Varget

I think I can get a second high accuracy node with these bullets around 47.2- 47.7gr Varget. That would keep me solidly in the 2900fps range, based on my other loads with AMAX and Scenars, but the two loads listed above work just fine for me.

I run an adjustable block. No idea what the actual pressure, but I get a nice bolt imprint on the case head if I don't turn the gas down. I've got 1000 cases & it shoots good where it's at, so I don't mess with it.

Re: Anyone using Nosler Custom comp projectiles?

Pretty old thread but I've loaded the 168 and 175 Nosler and load them the same as the SMK's. Nothing wrong with the way they shot but the groups would always be a just a little bigger with the Noslers.

I did a test with the 168's out of a 308 shooting into 4 feet of tightly packed cardboard and when finished I slowly peeled the layers away to see how far they went. One of the Noslers shot all the way through and all were at least 3 feet into the cardboard but had run in many directions. The Noslers were all intact with the exception of one and the core was solid within 6 inches of the jacket and it was the only one that lost more than .4 grain total weight. The Sierras were about a foot in with a wound channel about the size of your fist and no parts big enough to identify. Shots were at 100yds and all within a 1/2" group on the target that was shot indoors in a warehouse and running just over 2800fps.
Made me think the Sierra has a thinner jacket and may be why my groups were always slightly better with them.
