Anyone using TAC for .308

Re: Anyone using TAC for .308

Tried some TAC a couple of years ago, but on lighter projectiles, I just didn't have much success.

Re: Anyone using TAC for .308

Ramshot lists 39.2 to 43.5 grains of TAC with the 175 SMK on their website.

Re: Anyone using TAC for .308

Initially doing some load development I am got some decent groups at 100 while pushing Nosler 155's with TAC.

46 grs in a Federal case loaded to 2.80 got me 2820fps from a 20" GAP rifle and 2750 out of a 18" DPMS.

Going to stretch it out this weekend and see what happens at distance.

Re: Anyone using TAC for .308

I think 308Sako has done some load development with TAC and some various bullets with decent success. My very initial impression from talking to him was that it TAC was good with the .308, just not as good as he's seeing with his Varget loads. I guess it depends on what you need it for because he's pretty anal about his accuracy.

Re: Anyone using TAC for .308

I plan to shoot it from a POF .308. 14.5 inch barrel.

Re: Anyone using TAC for .308

My accuracy load for the 168gr is 43-44gr of TAC. So work your way down from 44gr.

Re: Anyone using TAC for .308

Last summer did some load development with TAC and 155CC's: From 24" FN 12-twist barrel. PPU Brass, Wolf Primer, 2.840"

CHARGE AVG VEL
45.0gr 2817fps
45.5gr 2885fps
46.0gr 2923fps

Re: Anyone using TAC for .308

Al dumb question why go with the 175's w/ a 14" I like TAC for my 16" carbine. 47g 147-150g FMJ and it does it's job to 500yds+ but the carbine is designed to keep heads down not shoot bug hole groups. Remember you give up alot of velocity on a rig that short. I'm getting 2565 fps on my 16" barrel w/ the 150ish grain stuff.

Re: Anyone using TAC for .308

Lazuris, thanks for the heads up. I will give them a try.

Re: Anyone using TAC for .308

My Black Hills Match clone uses 42.0 gr of TAC and SMK 175.
I've used Win., LC and Lapua brass and several primers and all shoot great. This is out of my GAP and factory Remington .308s.
