Decided to hit the range to test out some new bullets from Berger. I usually don't shoot at 100 that often anymore, but I wanted to take shooter error out as much as possible so please excuse the 100 yard group and a 5 shot group at that.

    Sorry LL.

The flyer could have been me, I don't know, I'm not the best bench shooter out there. But I am pleasantly surprised with the results from a barrel with so many rounds down the tube.

    Gun and load details
    Stiller Action
    Broughton Barrel
    with a PH 5-25

Ammo is the same load I use with the standard 180gr Berger VLD match. The bullets were the 182gr XLRs that Berger had on special last week. Seated at magazine length, no jam, no idea how far from the land the bullets are. The boat tails are very short on these. I can not just throw the case into the shell holder with a bullet sitting on top. The bullet must go into my die first before I sit it down on the shell holder on my Co-Ax. Didn't have to do that with the other Bergers, JLKs or Sierras.

New 182gr Berger XLRs on the far left. They will not go into production. But I have enough to last me a while.

I have a new barrel on order. What says the Hide mind if I just go ahead and replace it since it has so many rounds down the tube or just shoot the hell out of it until it really opens up. I'm really not sure how much more shes got. Does a barrel just go away or does it gradually go away?

Re: APA 7WSM @ 2900 rounds, is it shot out?

I would say 2900 is a very very good amount of rounds down the gun. We touched on barrel life last weekend at ASC. I was told a barrel can fall off slowly or very fast, just depends. That being said, I would not let one flier/ group be the deciding factor.

I would have my name on the list and a barrel on order from APA if I were you!!

More than likely if your getting those four rounds in that group and one out then it was you. If it's shooting that good I wouldn't touch it. I say shoot it another 500 rounds and then check your groups at 100 and so on until you see it open up.

When the throat starts to go south you start to get unexplained fliers.........just saying, after 2,000+ rounds. Nice group BTW, I'd say you're getting your moneys worth.

He shoots this rifle at 600yds almost every weekend and its always on target first round, its a freaking laser even with the high round count. I say APA puts out very accurate rifles.Barrel is got some life still.

Re: APA 7WSM @ 2900 rounds, is it shot out?

The flyer really don't bother me that much. Shooting the hundred is just boring to me, I occasionally bring it out to that distance to test something out or to let non shooters shoot it. I am just more curious then anything on when others start to replace the barrel. I think montana replaced his already, but not sure on the round count.

Re: APA 7WSM @ 2900 rounds, is it shot out?

I curently have 1600+ rds. down my 7mmWSM(benchmark barrel),and it will still shoot 1/2moa,as long as I do my part.I am getting ready to buy the parts for a re-barrell,just so they will be ready when I decide it's shot out.I would really like to see 2000+ rds. before accuracy becomes unacceptable. If I were you,I would start buying the parts needed for a re-barrel,sooner or later, you will need them.BTW,how much do you shoot a week/month?

Re: APA 7WSM @ 2900 rounds, is it shot out?

I do have a new barrel on order. Shooting schedule varies. It depends where I am going to be shooting mostly. 100 yard testing, 25-30 rounds maybe. Shooting longer distances, 50-100. Going to the "ranch" 100+ in a single afternoon.
