has anybody used the fat bastard muzzle brake? and if so how does it compare to the vais brake...

Haven't used one but have heard some good things. You couldn't give me vias if I had to shoot it. A break w/ports all the way around just doesn't work for prone shooting. Stirs up too much dirt

I have heard great things about the Fat Bastard also. I want to try one on my next build.

I have several "Fat Bastard" brakes. Being an old guy I have shot many many different styles/types of brakes. The "Fat Bastard" is the best brake I have ever shot, Period! As the shooter you don't get any concussion or pressure "slap". I don't do hardly any shooting prone anymore but what little I have done.....well it's a brake and moves some sand/dirt but nearly as much as other brakes. Loud? yes it is loud.
At the end of the day I would rather pay for a "Fat Bastard" than get another brake for free.

i have never shot the fat bastard
but i know that the little one sure tames recoil
they are named the bastards for a reason, they are nasty sure does suck to shoot beside one but if you have one it sure is nice to watch impacts/misses and not feel any recoil

Go with the little bastard. I have a 280 with the little bastard and the rifle barely moves. The fat bastard would be overkill on your rifles IMHO..

Little Bastard will be the best choice for your application. The little bastardis a sweet brake!! Recoil reduction and muzzle jump reduction is amazing

I had the fat bastard on a 260 and I could see the bullet holes appear at 100. By far the best brake I've used. It does look like a Nazi grenade though.

I built a .338 Edge rifle for a guy and used the Little Bastard, it's a great break.

Mark at Short Action Customs threaded my 260 and installed a Little Bastard. As usual he did a fantastic job. Didn't have much recoil to begin with. Now the rifle barely moves.
