My thoughts as well. Looks like I need to get rid of my iPhone and go back to using a non-glamorous flip phone.

then you've missed the point in a big way.

the ability of the individual to capture and distribute content is probably one of the best defense's against widespread tyranny. Look at how twitter and YouTube were used by freedom fighters in Iran and other Mid-East states to pass around the message of protest and show how the respective regimes were oppressive in their responses.

If you love freedom, you love information and it's free distribution.

Apple can go die. I hate a vast majority of their products, and adding shit like this to the pot makes me loathe them more.

This little bit of technology could make covering up events as they actually fucking happened a hell of alot easier.

Fuck you apple. You Suck

So by using IR light you can incapacitate a digital camera lense...

This isn't anything new or amazing. Smart people have had this ability for a long time. Doesn't take Apple's whatever to make this happen.

No, that's not what is happening.

The phone is receiving a certain IR signal which corresponds to code inside the phone which says "disable all camera recording abilities". This isn't using IR light to overcome the camera's filter and white out the image being done by some random person, it's a programmed response specifically built into the phone by the manufacturers.

There's the rub. Some low-tech goon in government with overreaching authority decides that it's such a good thing that everyone should have it in their equipment, and so it is made, no. 1.

Ummmm can anyone say IR filter??? The freedom of information is just like war. For everything that a 3rd party creates to block the distribution of free information someone will find a way to circumvent it.

Has anyone seen the movie Pirate Radio?
