I have decided to start an AR 10 build rather than order from JP, GAP, etc. To my understanding, there are two major patterns. Which is the wise choice, DPMS or Armalite? It is going to be in 260 Remington with a 22 or 24 inch barrel. Which barrel manufacturer should I go with and which bolt assembly? What do I need to be concerned about when it comes to matching components, gas blocks, handguards, barrel diameter, etc. Thanks. I have experience with 223 AR builds but I can imagine a precision AR in 308 variants is a bit different.

My AR-10 in .260 Remington is built using Armalite upper, lower, BCG, and stock. The barrel is a Krieger 24-inch 8-twist. The combination is more than capable of sub-1/2 MOA using Lapua Scenar 139-gr bullets.

All that said, I would give DPMS parts a close look, mainly because they seem to be more available and because it looks as though there are more third-party accessories for the DPMS platform.

I'd say pick The barrel you want and start from there.. because that will determine what BCG and hand guard that will be compatible. also do you have any idea what receivers you plan on building on ?

I went with Lilja and he uses a DPMS pattern and I've been happy to say the least. It seems like all of a sudden everyone and their brother is making large frame sets and offer some type of barrel also.

You should do some searching here regarding building a .260. I would suggest for that caliber you either use an Armalite complete BCA or contact JP about what they have with the smaller diameter firing pin than comes with the DPMS. May as well not start off a new build blowing primers. This has been beaten to death but you can run the Armalite BCA in a DPMS upper. I would go with DPMS type upper and lower because you will have more options for magazines. I would buy whatever BCA and send the bolt to the barrelmaker and let them headspace it for you.

I'm about to start a Mega MKM build myself. I settled on DPMS pattern due to the greater availability of parts.
JP sells .260 and 6.5 Creedmoor barrels with options high pressure (small firing pin) bolts. I am doing two uppers for my build: one with 16" .308 from another company for DMR/heavy carbine use, and a JP 6.5CM 22" for long range precision. I've looked into the others and companies like Lilja and similar are excellent companies who make outstanding barrels as well. I chose JP because they're local to me and they make a lot of .308/larger frame AR components.

I also settled on the 6.5CM because it was designed for the AR platform. Just personal preference though.

I personally have a Mike Rock barrel in my .308 that's a laser. If I was building an AR10 today it would have a Bartlein or Lilja barrel in it.
