ok i allready used the search function but came up with nothing
so i have an ar-10 with a prs on it and absolutely hate it want it off my rifle ASAP. now i was wanting to putt a UBR on it and thought i had to get an AR-10 specific UBR to putt on it but aperantly not and ive been under the impresion that A-15 and AR-10 stocks are not interchangable this hole time and this has been reinforced by the only smith i have acces to down here. also another guy on here said i can just get a UBR and get a heavy buffer witch is like another $125 from slash and im gtg but why cant i us the one thats allready in my rifle? so another question is what are my options to do this affordably now that i am going to spend money on a noveske barrel and i would like to turn around and sell the prs as a complete assembly to get my money back out of it.

Re: ar-10 stock

stocks are stocks. its the tube, buffer and spring that make the difference. the DPMS pardus for example is the same stock and tube for at15 and lr308 just with a different spring and buffer. armalite may have its own buffer length and tube requirements. but slash will be able to get you what you need. at least thats the way i understand it. the UBR comes with its own tube doesnt it? so you will need just the buffer and spring from slash

RYNO,

I responded to your WTT ad on this issue a while back and I'll just reinforce what I said there once more. First off, your smith is partially right and partially wrong.

There are SOME AR-15 stocks that will NOT work properly with an AR-10/LR-308 rifle/carbine. The PRS is one such stock because of the cheek riser which is shortened on the AR-10 PRS to allow the longer charging handle to work properly. This is also particularly true when it comes to AR-15 carbine stocks.

The Magpul UBR uses an "Entry" receiver extension/buffer tube which requires the use of a carbine buffer and spring. When you want to install one on an AR-10 type rifle, you have to get the weight of an AR-10 carbine buffer, but in a length that is shorter like the AR-15 carbine buffers. The Armalite AR-10 carbine buffer is longer and is made for Armalite's longer, proprietary AR-10 carbine receiver extension which is longer than the AR-15 carbine extension. The solution, and the one specifically recommended by Magpul for use with the UBR on any AR-10, is Slash's carbine buffer/spring combo which I already suggested to you in the other thread. Slash's buffer is the only 3.25" (required length) buffer with the minimum required weight (5.6oz) to get the job done.

As for using the buffer/spring already in your rifle...its apples and oranges. You currently have a rifle-length receiver extension and buffer and spring. The rifle buffer is nearly 2" longer than the carbine buffer and obviously won't operate in a carbine/entry receiver extension. If you pull the rifle-length receiver extension, along with the buffer and spring and the PRS itself, you can probably sell them for $250 or so. Turn around and put that money into a UBR and Slash's buffer/spring combo and you will probably be out of pocket <$100 to upgrade from the PRS to the UBR.

If you need confirmation or have any addt'l worries, you can contact Magpul directly. [email protected]
