Hello all!
I have been thinking for a while on a .308 carbine, and have settled on the AR-10 SST--> http://www.armalite.com/ItemForm.aspx?item=10A4CBSF
What do I want out of this carbine? I want a (1).308 caliber firearm, (2) something I can quick-sight targets at 50-300m, (3) something not too unwieldy when on the move.
I'm no gun expert so I'm not familiar with the mods that would be ideal for this purchase (if any). Is the standard grip shown in Armalite's photo any good? Do I need that modded? Is there an optics railing that's needed to mount an aimpoint?
This brings me to my next issue: optics. I'm thinking 2x mag is about the most powerful I want on something that I want to be able to quick-sight targets. I've looked at what Acog offers and most of those products are either too long, seem to have too little eye relief for a .308's recoil, and most are not made for a .308.
I realize that a standard aimpoint has no magnification at all, but does an aimpoint provide the user with anything other than the red dot? Also, does an aimpoint on a .308 remain pretty stable as far as its zero? Also, are there any non-advertised tricks/tip/pitfalls with aimpoint batteries?
Thankyou for any assistance!
