bushmaster xm15 i got has optics ready. so the a2 front sight is shaved off.

i removed it and bought a new front sight to go with my carry handle.

i need to drill for the tappered screws. does it have to be perfect the drill holes i mean?

im bout to head off to lowes to see if they sell a tappered drill bit

Re: ar-15 a2 front sight

Yes, the holes have to be perfect. Otherwise, your entire FSB will be out of alignment. The sight post sitting on the very top will magnify any misalignment issues.

Do you have a jig for drilling FSB holes?

Drill press at least?

Aligning the holes properly is why set screw and clamp-on models are popular in the aftermarket.

Good luck with that. The front sight base is held on by tapered pins, not screws.
