Well, I have decided to build a 308 pistol with a 10.5 inch barrel. I like the power in a compact package for a car or truck gun and general mayhem. I am also starting to lose my grip on reality as I am getting older. I plan on running lighter bullets (110-135 grain) to reduce recoil and muzzle flares. The gun will use an adjustable gas block and full mass bolt carrier. For the people that have built 308 pistols are there any tips you would be willing to share?

    Thanks in advance.

I love 308s but not sure it gets you much over a 300bo in that barrel length. It'll be loud! Personally I'd probably do a 308 bullpup instead of a 308 pistol. The Tavor 7 looks pretty nice.

Even at 10.5 inches you still get a little better ballistics beyond 300 yards, based on some data I have looked at. Yeah, it is going to be loud and throw some impressive fireballs.

I have never been a fan of bullpups but the only reason is lack of being around them.

I think you'd be better of by far going with 6.8 SPC (assuming you don't want .300 BO Super Sonic) if you want a practical truck / car gun.

Otherwise for a fun blasting gun you could play around with one of these:

Thanks for the links and I do like the PTR guns. I will have to keep those in mind.

I have a 6.8SBR and an integrally suppressed .300BO and both are fine rifles. The drivers for the .308 is breadth of bullet weights, overall ballistics and off the shelf ammo options. The again it might just be because I am bored out of my head.

I went 14.5 to avoid the fireball. 14.5 jp barrel with adjustable gas block, jp tunable silent capture spring(ended up with H2 configuration) low mass carrier. Im also running a can. shooting 130gr/150gr. Also leaves some realestate on the handgaurd to mount needed stuff.

I paused about building a short 7.62 project......then moved on to this 6.8 SPC II. I believe the over all terminal performance is better without the in-your-face drama. Setup for either red dot optic or real scope for dedicated business.

If you happen to have the coin for a transferable HK Sear, or a FA lower for the AR platform, you can have a lot of fun.
The HK sear would let you play F/A with everything from a 9mm Subgun MP5 pistol all the way up to a .308 beltfed conversion.

That is an interesting idea and I have not thought about that. Thanks.
