Is Deuck Defense the best canted back-up sight or are they all the same? Pricing is all over the board. Need one for a POF AR10 in 6.5CM. Of the padded slings I've looked at this Vickers seems to be superior to most, is that correct? https://www.blueforcegear.com/slings/weapon-slings If you were purchasing this sling, which HD quick disconnect swivel would you use? Lastly, I am mounting a Nightforce SHV 5-20X56mm scope on this rifle, what would be the best mounting option (rings) to buy? Yeah, I'm new to the AR thing. Thanks for your advice.

Back up sight, don't use them, see no purpose to them unless I'm running a red dot. Even then, I do not run them.

Slings are personal choice, Vickers is one. You will get several other recommendations. I would suggest the Ferro Concepts Slingster.
Then honestly any QD sling attachment that is sold from any place other than fleabay and amazon. Should be quality enough.

No rings. You want a unimount/AR mount/one peice mount. Whatever you want to call them.

I only run canted/45 degree BUIS on rifles with a scope that requires tools to remove from the rifle (either a 1-piece mount or rings). If it’s QD or a red dot I just use vertical/standard BUIS.

I have the Troy offset BUIS on two rifles that meet the above criteria. When they’re on sale they’re a good buy. Haven’t used the Deuck Def ones so can’t compare. Only needed them once due to a mud puddle but they kept the rifle in action and saved a stage.

I'm advised against flip-up sights...that they are less accurate and useless if not deployed and to stick with fixed, low profile BUIS. I was also told, "You will also need to remember that the 2.5 inch off set that you have with your scope will be identical with the BUIS. This means that if you want to put a shot into the chest you need to aim for right about the collar line."

Considering this will be my primary sight when hiking out of the field in low/no light, is there a specific fixed sight that shines above the rest for this application? Still Troy? Not the fiberoptic Deuck?

From what little I know, the angled sites were designed with close range shooting in mind for fast-moving situations. In normal-human-practical-world, this is 3 gun competitions where you may have a very close target (less than 25 yards) where your main optic will be off zero and you don't want to hold over/under. I put normal top mounted flip-up BUIS on my new rifle, and I'll be zeroing those first, then zeroing my EOTech holographic independently - both at 50 yards. The reason for me to take that approach is that the BUIS are there for if my optic goes down. I'd pull it off (QR version) and just use the regular sites.

Just my opinion.

As initially stated, the back-up sights need to be canted and fixed for up close and personal shots when the scope is useless (as it would be at night). The areas I am moving through have plenty of predators, intend to zero the rapid transition sight to 50-100 yards. Still debating the fiber-optic thing since it wouldn't make much difference in the dark. Is there an Iridium option i should consider?

I only use 45 degree offset backups. Co-witness sights are useless if your optic is fogged, covered (snow, rain) or glass broken (may distort image)

Correct. Which is why I use them on anything where I might need them (non-range toys) and my optic isn’t QD. Here’s one example: scope is in a lightweight Aero mount that you can’t remove without tools on a varmint hunting AR. They lock up and stow away trim when folded down.

If you go with BUIS go with Troy, with the sling what is your main use of the rifle? I would go with something padded personally. Are you wanting a sling that helps stability when shooting free hand?

Still looking for a canted BUIS with Tritium front that'll mount to the POF model P-308. I wanted a sling for use in carrying the rifle front & back and for better stabilization when firing. Bought the Vickers 2pt padded sling for this.

Thanks for that. I placed the order this morning...spoke with Gary Cooper who advised me that "some" people find these sights to be too small for every rifle and that if my scope prevented these from working, they were releasing a second generation model in a couple of weeks that's a bit bigger and sets out further than these and he would exchange em if necessary. Great customer care there. I love that the Tritium is on both the front and rear sight...that's sweet! I owe ya one.

Well Gary was right, about half the size I need. The big objective is an issue. Can't pin the stock either so now I'm looking for something that'll be CA compliant. Any stock besides a Magpul A2 I should consider?

There are a few ways to mount backup red dots. I'd rather have that than irons in the dark. There are 45* offset plates and lots of ring manufacturers have ring halves that work as well.

You can use standard rings on an AR just fine, especially the large frames. As long as your eye relief and LOP are good and you have both rings on the received, you're good to go.

Does Snipershide have a responsive sponsor that sells AR parts? Every shop I have contacted is either outta inventory, not answering the phone, has full voice mail and issues with their contact form and/or not replying to email. Kinda frustrating.

That’s the downside of a market run on a commodity you sell... it makes you lazy.

I concur with the idea that if you must have backup sights, an offset red dot is far better than offset irons. For all the same reasons that a red dot is better than irons as a primary sight. I even have an offset dot on my 1-6 because canting the gun is faster in an “oh shit” moment than cranking the throw lever.

The hard part about picking the right unimount (fpni and all that) is you never really know which height will feel the best to you, but it needs to work FOR YOU (not what everyone says works for them, although this is the best place to start trying things) Equipment exchange is your friend for this, if you don’t like the height you have, cycle it out. I’d start with a 1.375 and then decide if you need to go higher.

Looks like I'm back to Dueck Defense Trijicon BUIS, the XS Sights are way too small for a 56MM objective. Finally found someone who could get me 3 cases of Hornady Superformance. Now I just gotta sit & wait.
