I have a new buttstock coming for my AR thursday but the site I bought it off of didn't have the wrench for sale as well and I don't have one. I'll have one to use saturday when I go to the range but I'd like to have the rifle set up before I leave for the range.

Does anyone know how to remove the castle nut on the tube without using the wrench and not destroy the parts? The Turner's here in town doesn't carry them and I don't want to spend more on shipping than I do on the wrench to get it here in time.

So is there a way to get it off minus the wrench or should I just practice some patience and way till saturday?

Re: AR Buttstock

You want to drive over I'll take it off for you.

If this is a Colt or other lower that this nut has been staked on you will want something other then the little flimsy wrench they sell.

I have a heavy duty spanner wrench that removes them but even with that you need a good receiver block to hold the receiver because it takes a lot of torque to break the stakes loose.

That little flimsy wrench is only good for putting them on prior to staking, if one decides to re-stake them that is.

Re: AR Buttstock

Its a RRA, I can't tell if they staked it or not, if they did, then not alot. I don't have a receiver block either, lol, my collection of tools are pretty sparse at the moment.

I do appreciate the offer though HateCA.

Re: AR Buttstock

I just want to put it out, Randy (HateCA) is a real standup guy with helping me out with my AR. While I was there chatting with him I got to get an eye full of his muzzle brake as well as some other really cool new things he has been working on. The fit and finish of the work he is putting out is high quality. Thank you again Randy.
