THANKS

btw read every thread i could find and still no true results .

Allright Dmoney,

I dont believe you loked at "...every thread i could find and still no true results". If you type in "ar-comp 308 loads" in google, you'll find what you are looking for.

That aside, my go to load for 308 is as follows:

LC brass
Winchester Large rifle primers
40.7gr AR-comp
175 SMK

The above shoots one hole groups outta my rifle.

I haven't chronoed this load, but i have shot this load in with great success (for me) in highpower "across the course" matches (200yd, 300yd & 600yds with iron sights, standing, sitting, and prone positions).

thanks flyboy .... yes i have ... there was one that had 168 amax out of a 16 " and one on the hide about 155's and cfe223 ... did a ar comp search on the hide 4 pages read every thread nothing but loads for 24" and no velocities /// hopefully someone will have data ..

AGAIN THANK YOU FOR YOUR INFO !!!

I just did load work up in my 16" gasser with 8208. Didn't have accuracy until .3gr above book max. At that point, I was very pleased with accuracy and velocity, but was blowing primers out into the action. 8208 is really better suited to lighter bullets in the .308 from what I've seen. If you have any 155gr I'd try that combo.

WOW BLOWN PRIMERS SUCK .... what bullet ????.... oal ????.... brass ????.....velocity ????

thanks... it all helps

175 SMK, 210m, FC case, don't recall charge, but it was .3 over Hodgdon load.

For my 16.5" POF:

168 Berger Classic Hunter (close as I can get you, similar to an Amax)
Winchester or Lapua brass
CCI 200 primer
42.4 grain IMR 8208 = 2460 FPS in Winchester brass, 2475 in Lapua. This isn't the fastest load, but definitely the most accurate.

43.3 grains was right at pressure max in Winchester brass, but under MOA and was 2580 FPS.

i just started the load work up on the 175s so this load may change. id like to get them over 2600 and i believe i have the room to do so. my highest charge has been 43.3 (avg fps 2589 sd 9.0) with no pressure signs to speak of. noslers max charge for 8202 xbr is 42. for the 175's so maybe dont copy my load as im loading them longer than sami. ill update again if i work the load up further than this.

18' 1/10 twist
175 nosler custom competition or 175 smk
42.7 8208 xbr
hornady match brass h20 case fill 55.5
fedral match large primers 210m
fps 2556 avg 50 shot group
sd 8.9

can remember book max for these dudes. for this load i used nickle plated FC brass and i didnt really know how the pressure signs would show up excluding creator'd primers. so i was conservative on these. but i dont realistically see myself shooting these farther that 600 and this load would do just fine for that. the only reason i used nickle plated brass was because the nosler ballistic silver tips are a black bullet with a silver tip and i liked the way it looked. also loaded conservative insight of the h20 case fill being 54.1 which is less than most normal 308 cases. in hind sight i probably wouldn't do this again.

18" 1/10 twist
168 nosler ballistic silver tip (or standard BT)
40.2 ar comp
federal nickle plated brass h20 case fill 54.1
fps 2525 avg 50 shot group
sd 6.8

8208 and AR Comp are my two to go powders in the 308. These loads are from a 24" 1/12" Hart barrel.

175 Nosler CC / Fed. 210 / old Federal 163 gr. cases / 42.0 8208. AVG. 2669 / SD-5 / E-S 13

175 Nosler CC / Fed. 210 / Winchester 165 gr. case./ 41.0 AR Comp / AVG. 2653 / SD-11 / ES-28

168 Nosler CC / Tula LRP / Hornady case / 43.0 8208 / AVG. 2761. / This load was also very accurate with the Hornady 168 OTM and the Sierra 168 OTM.

You're in the ball park, but with that 18" barrel, you're going to about hit the limit of your load @ 2600 FPS.

Alliant 2000 MR might get you there. 46.5 of 2000 MR with a 175 Nosler CC / Fed. new cases / Fed.210 gets me to 2769 AVG / S-d 5 / E-S 13.

thats about what i figured. ive been using quick load for an ish to get an idea for what powders could get me there. ar comp and 8208 were 2 of them i have some imr 4895 that i want to test, but ive been told its a bit temperature sensitive. being in michigan, temp is all over the place. i think i'm gonna go up a few more tenths with 8208 and see if i can get it over 2600 and call it good. looking back at my last post and now at my xrf app i was mistaken about my 43.3 group average was 2584 and my sd was 8.4 es 18. 2nd and 4th short were 2593 and 2592. so im sure i can get there. i was going to call it good at 2556 with it being less power and not a huge difference in fps. but i keep reading 2600 would help more.
