Hey guys, I’m looking at either the Ranier Arms 16” rifle length gas 1:8 barrel or the SOLGW 16” midlength gas barrel. I’ve been looking at different Buffer systems, but no luck yet on which would run the smoothest. I’ll have aNOX and Sandman K on it too. Aero M5 Lower btw!

Thx!

If you were to ever run without the can using surplus or steel case ammo, mid length gas would probably be more reliable. Action/recoil for carbine adjustable stock, I'd go with an intermediate (A5) length receiver extension, H2 or H3 buffer and a 308 rifle length spring like the ArmaLite #EA1095.

I did hear back from SOLGW and they recommended an A5 tube with a green spring and H2 Buffer for the intermediate gas system.

H2 without the can might be OK, but MLGS w/can, I would be prepared for something heavier. KAK, and others, make a configurable AR-15 carbine buffer kit (correct for the AR-10/AR308 using an intermediate RE) that you can swap weights out to dial in up to 5.6oz.. Might help if you don't already have a variety of buffers to try. Some cans might need heavier than that, but I think the Sandman K is fairly low back pressure.

Rlgs for 16". I'd consider going shorter with a pin / weld too.

That sandman k will be loud but the low back pressure will make it worth it. High back pressure cans aren't worth it on large frames.

Ya, I just don’t really have any interest in going shorter than that. I have a 8” 300blk and 11.5” 5.56 for shorter applications as well as a 16” 5.56!

I have a Criterion 16” rifle gas barrel that shoots good. It cycles with xm80, every factory ammo I’ve tried, and hand loads.

ETA: Armalite Carbine length RE with an H3 works.

Good to know. I hadn’t looked at them yet. Honestly didn’t even think about it. , but this rifle is mainly going to be eating M80 and M118 special ball if I can find it.
