For those of you with .308 ARs what stocks are you using? Also those of you who use stocks like the SOPMOD, CTR or other lightweight collapsible stocks do you feel that it causing a imbalance in the handling, making it muzzle heavy? especially those with 18" or longer barrels and or have cans attached.

Reason I'm asking is I'm trying to put together a build list, and can't decide if I should go with the UBR stock or save money and just get the buffer, spring and carbine stock and use the SOPMOD stock I have lying around. I'm also thinking I could always put weights in the battery sleeves in the stock to improve balance if needed.

On my SIG 716 I like the Magpul ACS stock it came with. On my LMT MWS, POF P-308, Armalite AR10 A4 and DPMS SASS I use the Magpul PRS (came standard on the DPMS SASS). I felt the SOPMOD, CTR and similar stock made the 308's feel unbalanced. Only downside is the PRS adds quite a bit of weight to the rifles.

Collapsible stocks on large-frame ARs with longer barrels, especially longer barrels with suppressors, can get really unruly in terms of poor balance/being overly muzzle heavy. If you want a collapsible stock, I'd suggest you look into the UBR which is VERY heavy in comparison with other collapsible stocks (the UBR with a basic .308 CAR buffer comes in at ~2lbs while the CTR and ACS style stocks are roughly half that). Between the PRS which is an excellent stock, but VERY heavy, the UBR only ends up only weighing about 1/4-1/3lb lighter but still gives you collapsibility if that's what you are after. If you are going to run the SOPMOD or something like a CTR, etc., then adding the SAPR to it will help greatly with balancing things out as it adds just over 1lb to the stock.

I think I have ran them all. Seeing you are going longer and less the battle rifle route I think the PRS is your best overall choice. Currently I am running the NEW Magpul MOR Rifle Stock and like it. I especially like the price and the cheek weld is fine for my set up. This is on the S&W M&P 10

Make sure you take a good look at the buffer, tube and spring no matter which way you go. Get a spring and buffer from Slash's Heavy Buffers.
