Arctic warfare 1.0, fair deal?

Hello gents. I’ve been in the market for a thumbhole AI rifle for a few months now. I was mainly looking at AT’s with the thumbhole skins, however I have come across an opportunity to pick up an Arctic Warfare 1.0 with the fixed comb and black fixed stock. I can get it for 4k. Doesn’t seem like there are many completed sales out there on these guns, especially the early ones, so I’m curious if you all think that seems like a fair price? Additionally, it would need a top rail. Will any AT top rail fit the AW action? Thanks in advance.

Id say that a pretty good deal, given what they've been trading for lately. Me personally, I wouldn’t want a fixed stock AW. I suspect many feel the same way

Why does it need a rail?

Thanks for the info. I’m not sure why it doesn’t have a rail on the top of the receiver, sadly I just know that it needs one. Can I ask why most wouldn’t want the folder?

I wouldn't buy an AW unless you just want one for collector/nostalgia purposes. The updated action is an upgrade over the AW for more than just the quick change barrel system. The 1.0 stocks are also the least desirable, being able to fold for cleaning and transport is very nice if you're going to do more than look at it. The new chassis is also an upgrade.

The only AI I’d buy if I’m being honest with myself.

Sometimes I question that theory though.

The receiver has a dovetail on top, and doesnt need a rail.

The folder is nice to have for reasons mentioned above, and for only a few hundred bucks more.

I love my AW, but a Current AT is the way better buy.

Sounds like the preference is universal for the AT. I’m really not a huge precision shooter, I’ve just always wanted a thumbhole accuracy international. My preference would be for the most collectible variant I can find.

Also, grabbed some pictures. 17” barrel looks like it was a cut down. After seeing the pictures, what do you guys think of the price? Receiver is marked 95 AW. That a specific model? It would be an occasional shooter for me, and mostly a collectors piece. The left bipod foot also appears to be chipped off. If I do buy it, how would a guy mount a rail to this receiver setup?

95 would be the production year. Is the L96A1 early 80’s?

An AW is going to be more collectible since they had military use with the L96A1. There were 1.0 versions too.
What year AW’s are the most sought after? Only asking because I see some going for near $10k lately it seems

You dont need a rail, you just buy a dovetail scope mount. AI sells them, which would make it a period correct mount.

Anyone know of any black 1.0’s that were militarily adopted?
Check out forgotton weapons on you tube,
he has a good run down on the AI/AW .mil rifles
Vids will get you oriented on what is/isn't collectable.

I don’t think year has much to do with it since L96’s were fielded in multiple stock versions and for a long time. Anyone paying $10K for an AW is an idiot unless it’s in a metal transit case with an AI marked S&B on it, those do have significantly more value. The AWM’s and AWSM’s bring higher values due to being more desirable and less of them in the wild.

If you are a collector or just really want an AW, it's probably a "fair" price considering what they are currently selling for.

If you just want a rifle to shoot and/or use as a tool and like the ergo, just get an AT with thumbhole skins. Its a far better rifle overall.

4K is a bit much. 3250-3500 tops. Probably lower since it has the black skins. Green would be the more optimal color. I think you can get 1.5 skins and cheek piece to fit the 1.0s.

4K, get a ATX. I'm pretty sure there are going to be a lot of people going to offloading them soon on top of the ones that are always on the PX for sale. You have a more modern platform, easier to change the barrel, more stuff for them on the market.
