Are derka owners ignorant? - tapco g2 discussion

I went to the dark side earlier this year and bought a higher-end russian akm conversion. The gun runs great and is accurate (sub 2 moa) but i find myself constantly struggling with the tapco g2. It is gritty, sloppy and breaks in consistently. The double action trig on my old beretta 92fs was better!

I am a little spoiled with above average triggers on my other guns (accutriggers, bushy two-stage, 1942/43 m1 garand - best combat trigger of all time!, sig p229).

Ak owners praise this trigger group. Are they ignorant or did i get a dud? Am i just spoiled?

Also - has anyone had success taking some fine grit sandpaper to where the sear engages the hammer?

The Tapco trigger is not praised because it's a match trigger. It's praised because it doesn't slap the shit out of your finger when you are firing it like some semi-auto AK's tend to.

My WASR came with the G2. It's what I would expect from a military trigger and is more than adequate for the accuracy a rack grade AK is capable of.

I just did a small amount of polishing on the sear and hammer on my g2 and it appears to have made a big difference. The uptake is still sloppy but the break is lightened by about 1/2 pound, cleaner and more consistent.

I used 600 grit sandpaper. Of course triggers always feel better during dry firing.

I have no idea. I am most definitely not an AK expert. I can drive em, but aside from field stripping I have not taken any time to mess with the internals. I just don't expect a lot out of mine. It was a sub-$400 semi-auto that is dead reliable and will punch through barriers. That is what sold me on it. It's table manners suck.

My Romie with the Tapco was a little rough but after a couple hundred rounds it seemed to smooth out. I just lube it up with Mobile 1 and blow out any gunk with my air compressor.

I just wanted to update with range results of my trigger polishing.

The improvement I felt on dry firing at home translated directly to more rounds on target. I improved my hits on an 18" gong at 200 yards off hand from about 30% to about 75% of shots on target.

It is still not the best trigger, but the break is more consistent/predictable so I even as I am wading through the slop I can do my best to be on target when the trigger breaks.

This was literally only about 15 minutes of polishing with 800 grit sandpaper and I didn't even break the trigger down to do it.

I would recommend the procedure to anyone with an AK as it seems it would be extremely hard to take enough off to cause a malfunction.
