I am looking to get NV gear and then thermal. Recently I was talking to a Special Forces guy and he said that NV compatible Eotech/Aimpoints were not really needed because when using NV you would use a laser for aiming. Does this hold true for hunting? What about thermal? I am always looking to set up my rifles so that when I upgrade to new/more optics(NV/Thermal). Help me out here. If someone has a recommendation for optics for NV/Thermal use let me know.

NV optics like the eotech and such just means that the reticle is so low you can barely see it with out NV. So that it doesn't burn into the tube. Thermal it wont matter. Illuminated reticles arent really needed for NV if you got good stuff. But yes, you don't even have to have a optic if your using an IR laser with you NV head mounted.
