I have a howa 1500 barreled in 6.5 creedmoor, i'm new to reloading, and i just set up my basic rcbs dies. I was shooting for an ogive measurement of 2.175" and i set one at 2.039" and one at 2.115". Would still be safe to fire? They aren't very hot charges, they are 38.5 gr of h4350 with a 129 gr hornady sst on top. THanks for any input.

Merry Christmas and Happy New Year as well.

Then yes you should be fine as long as you know your short of the lands. Generally speaking anything short of being against or jammed into the lands will have a lower pressure peak than an all else being equal equivalent round forced into the rifling.

That is a basic way of checking yes and you should be good. You can get more precise using other methods but that is one way to skin that cat.

Awesome thanks, I have a oal gauge and modified case and all, I just wanted to make sure that seating them that much deeper wasn't going to remove my face or anything. I was just nervous and new to it, thanks a bunch.

Na if you were crunching powder with stupid amounts of neck tension I dunno maybe it's possible the pressure wave would spike funny as that round jumped to the rifling but I highly doubt it. Your only in a little over .1 with a middle of the road charge I think it will just show up on paper as a flier.
