Rifle Scopes Ares BTR gen 2 turret o-ring removal?

I removed the turret o-rings on my gen 2 Ares and the clicks are now very similar in feel to the Midas TAC. Do those o-rings have anything to do with waterproofing the scope or are they just there to smooth out turret rotation? I searched and couldn't find an answer.

Submersible with the o ring in, non-submersible with it out.

I know this is older thread but did they change the Midas Tac's or Ares turrets?? bc I think they felt the same. I have the Midas Tac and I absolutely LOVEEEEE the turrets!! Audible, tight, crisp, no slop!! Can you add an Oring to Midas Tac? What difference would it make?
