I picked up a nicely modified Arisaka Type 38 action for $75. It has a magnum boltface among other mods. At first I thought my options were 6.5 Rem mag or a 350 Rem mag. With brass getting harder to find for them I am looking at a 300 WSM.
What problems can I expect if I go with the WSM case??

Re: Arisaka build

I haven't had my hands on an Arisaka in half a lifetime and have never modified one, but if I remember correctly the feed rails are milled into the action like a Mauser. I have opened plenty of Mausers though and made one run with a .404 based .416 wildcat so I'm slightly optimistic that it can done.

To be honest though, the cock on closing and the absolutely massive firing pin would make me think twice about throwing money at it. It may be the world record holder for slowest lock time. On the positive side it will be an excellent trainer for teaching people to follow through with their shots.

Sorry, probably not what you wanted to hear.

Re: Arisaka build

Isn't that one of the actions used when ackley tested his loads. I was told they even blew barrels of the action, it was the stronger of the military actions of the time.
