We had quals today, the weather was shit but I scored Expert so its all good. Just wondering are all triggers on Army issue M4s that shitty? I mean mine was so heavy I had to check if it was on safe after I know I set it to fire. The reason why I ask is we checked out rifles from the Guard Armory that were supposed to be clean and were freakin filthy, if thats how they treat their weapons I might have gotten a bum trigger? All in all a good day (except the ruck march in the shitty weather).

Re: Army ROTC Rifle Quals

What kind of unit did you draw the weapons from? Also was the weapon wet or dry when you drew it? If it was wet then there is your answer, no matter how clean you get a rifle, you CLP it and store it and the CLP will pull carbon out of the pores of the steel, making it look dirty.

Personally I'd be pissed if someone else was using my rifle and fucking with the sights.

And yes, the triggers suck compared to aftermarket triggers.

How far of a ruck march did you do and how long?

Re: Army ROTC Rifle Quals

Artillery, I would assume wet (which makes sense whey they seem filthy). I have a stock trigger in my AR that is lighter and more crisp than that POS, stock is stock I guess. Hope they don't get too bent about their sights when they get home from deployment in September. The ruck march wasn't too bad it was only supposed to be 5k but turned into 10k when the BC decided we didn't seem motivated. Mostly sucked because of the wet snow.

Re: Army ROTC Rifle Quals

The M16A2 and M16A4 have multiple parts to provide burst fire (a three-round burst cam and two disconnectors). Like it or not it is what it is -- terrible, heavy, and inconsistent.

An M16A1 or commercial AR have a single disconnector without all that other crap in it. They can be polished and cleaned up to provide a fairly good break.

Re: Army ROTC Rifle Quals

If they're deployed I would worry about the sights, there will be a turn over when they get back anyways.

I am surprised though, you said you shot M4s? Odd they didn't bring those with them (or did you guys have just a handful?)

They are rather heavy but that is all relative. The guard isn't very well know for taking care of their equipment. You would figure otherwise since they really don't get much so they should take care of what they have the best they can but that seems to not be the case.

It was a NG armory? If so, it services multiple units from the AO. Also they might not have deployed all of the unit.
Prior to qual they have to go through zeroing anyways so it should be a big deal. Plus I doubt they track who is assigned a weapon. They should, but I doubt it.
