Something to watch developing. It is concerning to a lot of very wise people.

March 29 (Reuters) - Elon Musk and a group of artificial intelligence experts and industry executives are calling for a six-month pause in developing systems more powerful than OpenAI's newly launched GPT-4, in an open letter citing potential risks to society.
Earlier this month, Microsoft-backed OpenAI unveiled the fourth iteration of its GPT (Generative Pre-trained Transformer) AI program, which has wowed users by engaging them in human-like conversation, composing songs and summarising lengthy documents.

The time is coming where you’ll have no idea who you’re communicating with online.

Right now we can pick out the bots due to language errors. Same thing for the foreign scammers. Soon we won’t be able to.

The deepfake shit is already getting REALLY scary. The ability to sync facial expressions, lip movements during speech and modified/added features to blend in perfectly with movement in videos, generate shadows based on lighting direction, etc, is already insane and is being used to create high level trolling and revenge porn. It is a matter of when now before it is fully weaponized and used to accuse people of crimes they never committed...

Artificial Intelligence? Look just north of the Potomac.

Very scary, and the longer you think about it the more scary it becomes. Even now, you don't need to have done a single thing, if someone wants you gone, and wants to use "the will of the people" to destroy you it can be done very easy. Saying you never said that is going to be proven false by video. And the normal person will have no means to fight it. And even if you do fight it and win who is going to know you are innocent? The propaganda that pretends to be "news" will never cover it. You will be a destroyed person, but none of this is new. It has been done for decades. Now they just have the tech to "prove" to the masses you did just what they say you did. And soon they will have even more easy access to your data.

I have played with the ChatGPT and it is pretty powerful, particularly for free. I am on the waiting list for access to Google’s Bard. Does anyone have experience with it yet?

A pause just means we want to be sure China gets it first.

Hint: WE DO NOT WANT CHINA TO GET IT FIRST. Every dystopia vision you've ever had is quite small compared to a world where China gets full AI first.

All the great classic Science Fiction writers warned about what would happen when humanity got lazy and started wanting machines to do their thinking for them.

Instead of taking it as a warning, humans seem to be taking it as an instruction manual.
Just like every other classic dystopian warning novel, now used as a action plan.

my only problem with ai is the morons that program it and even worse those in control of it they seldom are a bright group of trained monkeys .

This shit is how you get Skynet.

To think, when I graduated from high school, I wanted to go to college and get into A.I.

Artificial intelligence will never beat natural stupidity.

I saw this coming first hand as future phase of Digital Transformation - I helped develop/execute the strategy for major US company as we could not get people to work at our manufacturing sites in rural America. Can't get workers then automate and use AI/ML to replace experience. AI was just gaining ground as I retired.

It is real and it is coming. AI/ML will destroy white collar America. If a job can be done 100 yards from activity then it can be done a continent away (India) or by AI. These layoffs in news = white collar and are through off shoring or AI. Next phase will be government emphasizing "Basic Income" as all these white collar workers and other non trades skilled people need government support to survive. It is like the science fiction books where the masses live on government subsistence in grey uniforms while the tech giants live in luxury.

Tell your kids to learn plumbing and HVAC.

Unfortunately, apprentices are being told they can learn a trade and help build the Metaverse.

Virtual Reality is not AI. I have seen virtual reality used as a tool to train workers on hands on skills. Being used to train mechanics on engine repairs for example.

Lex Friedman has a number of podcasts on AI, Here is a recent one on GPT4 with it's "creator" (head of the team that built it)

Lex's podcasts require active listening, so grab an adult beverage and listen after the kids have gone to bed. Or if you have a very long commute without much traffic.

One EASY way is for a woman to accuse a man of molesting her daughter. Youre life is fucked.

I scanned the list of signatories. There was only 1 true ai expert.

The people who do this for a living aren't worried because while impressive, AI only copies. It doesn't think. Your brain out performs all the gpu/tpu in the world and is slower. Chat gpt can have conversation. It can't tell a cat from a dog. You can. Aka you can multitask.

AI is not efficient. It's a tool. Don't buy the hysteria.

And don't let the libs/Chinese control it.

All the doom and gloom is coming from publicly available ML. Just imagine what is already deployed behind close doors by alphabet agencies with unlimited budgets. There are no brakes on this train and it's only accelerating because whoever masters this is going to become richer than god and rule the world. This ride is going to be wild.

It is not hidden. Just being released to the public consumers and now on MS Office and your Bing search bar (improved)

I've been using Bard for a little over a week. I've found quite a few mistakes in the answers if gave.

I'm working on a map coordinate project and I was asking specific questions regarding different Datums and the calculations.

In general, the answers seem week. Like someone who knows jargon, but not substance.

Not just that, but we will lose the little internet anonymity we had left because we will have to give all our ID information just to post a shit comment on a YouTube video. Also, what about just the Hide community? We will start being skeptical of EVERYONE who joins and label all newcomers guilty until proven innocent. I hate seeing us Conservatives fight amongst eachother because we're suppose to be the voices of reason in this country.

It’s some powerful shit. My neighbor is a big data code writing guy and he more or less asked Chat GPT how to do some stuff it took him years to figure out and do and it showed him how, wrote the code and all in a matter of seconds. It’s scary good. It could be beneficial for human mind to crank away at things that would take us many many generations to figure out. And obviously it doesn’t need a break or need to sleep or eat or any of that stuff. If could be very very helpful in providing solutions to things we never even dreamed of. Or perhaps solving equations about space/time/the universe. Who knows? But, it’s only as good as what is put into it, until it teaches itself which is where the problem lies. Once it’s passed a certain point, I’m not sure how you can control it.

Unplug it.

I also tested chat gpt as part of our ai staff meeting. I asked it a simply question about data science and got back a perfectly bland bullshit answer. It looks good, but when you dig in, you see the flaws.

Here's a good example: one thing these models do is called question and answer. You feed an article and a question and the AI answers. So feed it an article about the most recent super bowl and then ask "who was world series mvp" and watch it shit itself.

I know AI seems really cool, but around the edges is a lot of work to do. A lot of people preach doom and gloom but they are not AI people. Consider it takes Billions of training examples for AI to learn versus a humans 1-10. And a human can extrapolate. Ai can only copy

TBH thats not a AI issue--AI just makes it easier for "Management" to snoop.

But I also support encourage people to start encrypting everything. There is very little privacy left.

I just got access to it and it seems some better than ChatGPT, but I also just got onto the ChatGPT4 and it is much better in terms of what I am looking at.

That is how all technology has always been. Humans do it and make it better or worse or evil. humans are bored. We need another planet to conquer and destroy.

I asked chatbot if the AR15 was a military weapon, it said yes and that the M4 was a variant of the AR15. It was also adamant that AR15 was and is being used by military units in various countries… but could not name any countries, units, nor quote any sources.

April 1 (Reuters) - Last year, Kris Kashtanova typed instructions for a graphic novel into a new artificial-intelligence program and touched off a high-stakes debate over who created the artwork: a human or an algorithm.

It seems the general consensus here doesn't understand what AI is.
AI - artificial intelligence (let that sink in......think about those words.....let it sink in deeper).

True AI is the ability for a machine to think for it's self, to make judgements and decisions, to envision new things.
Without the interaction, or oversight, from man.
To be a true brain, albeit mechanical, but capable of EVERYTHING you are, just better, and faster, and more accurate.

It's not scary, it's fucking terrifying.
How long before it learns to do things we don't want it to, and then circumvent any restrictions placed on it ?
Yea, it's like that.
The entire point of the thing is to learn, and teach it's self, and to think at such a monumentally higher level than any human that has ever been born.
Yea I can totally see this shit being a good idea.

not.

I listened to a theologian on the radio talk about his theory of the anti-christ being a form of AI. I wish I could remember who he was and find an audio of his broadcast.

Regardless, here's a couple of videos with another person promoting that theory.

Here's one thing to take away from the science of AI. If something is copied with imperfections then the imperfections are also copied. The copied product will not be perfect and flawed like the item it was copied from.

Man is imperfect. To copy man's intellect will mean that man's imperfections will also be copied.

I beg forgiveness for getting religious but we cannot discuss AI without theology. If you believe in the Holy Spirit as a restraining force on earth then you know that things aren't as bad now as they will be in the future.

Only the Holy Spirit can come to dwell in man. The Holy Spirit cannot live in a machine or computer. Therefore, AI will never have a restraining force acting upon it.

Like the videos point out; AI modeled after man has a rebellious nature. Man rebelled against his Creator. AI will rebel against its creator.

I haven't had time to read these articles but will post them anyway.
